Yes, the company number is important in this case.

It's no different legally to one spouse changing their last name on marriage, they remain the same person and this remains the same company.

There'll be an exercise to slimline the organisation. May not be immediate but will be high on the agenda. Areas of duplication will be addressed first.  Finance, marketing, HR.
