October 2021 Grocery Challenge

Hello again, I'd very belatedly like to rejoin this month! It's been such a chaotic start to October, so sorry for being so late.
My partner and I have £80 to see us between 22nd of September till payday again on 22nd.
We've already spent £55.40 of this, which is appalling compared to how well we budgeted in September. It's comprised of a lot of silly purchases that really could have been avoided. We have £24.60 left to see us through the next two weeks ish, which should be fine in theory, as we have plenty in the cupboards/freezer and will only need fresh things to stock up.7 -
Trip to F’s foods this afternoon for me and £5.99 spent on some bargain GF basics. By my reckoning that’s £152 remaining.6

Goldfinches - I went through the fridge and I seem to have quite a few peppers, so I will be stuffing a couple for tomorrow's dinner, but the rest seems to be fruit so I'll be ok for puddings!! What did you find? I'll have to go to the allotment for some veg on Friday.
Not been shopping for food. Had an eye appt today, but the cost of new glasses came from my annual bills sinking fund, I did put it on the credit card though for the points but it will be paid off before the bill comes in. I even took my treat money into the city thinking I could treat myself to lunch, but came home instead and had leftover soup from yesterday!
Tomorrow I will be doing a little grocery shopping as I need a couple of bits.

I’ve been lurking but not posting on the previous months challenges as I’ve just not been on top of it, so I’ll try for this month and then try and catch up with the rest!
I had an annual figure and I don’t know where I am with that, my monthly equivalent would be £400, so I’ll try and keep track of that.
So far for October, we’ve had a Morrison’s delivery on Sunday which was £80.75, a top up shop in the co-op for packed lunch bits that were missed off the delivery which was £7.95 and today did a stock up shop in Lidl of tins, frozen things and other non perishable bits that will last us until Christmas, if not the new year, which was £135.97. A total of £224.67, leaving £175.33 remaining for the month.2025 Decluttering Campaign Mrs SD –The joy of decluttering 45.5/104⭐️

@joedenise - thankyou for the reminder about the Simply Cook box, I had put a reminder in my electronic calendar as well and have now cancelled the box online which was easy to do so hopefully that's dealt with. I haven't actually tried the pots yet but will let you know what I think when I have.
@nannygladys - shamefully I found an iceberg lettuce that had turned into green mush and brown liquid, some mouldy green beans and some very limp and rather odd coloured tenderstem broccoli which are all now in the composting bin.
On a lighter note I also found a rather large number of limes, quite a lot of radishes, cucumber, stilton, cheddar, ripe figs, onions, leeks, spring onions, red onion, fennel, ginger, lemons, tangerines, beetroot, garlic, brussels sprouts, sugarsnap peas, olives, cauliflower, mangos, bananas, gherkins, pickled blackberries, blackberry and apple chutney and gluten free puff pastry.
It's a bit of a horrifying list isn't it. I ate a sliced fig with some stilton in a couple of wraps from the freezer for lunch along with some radishes and the cucumber. I made some onion bhajis for dinner and ate them with olive, gherkins, pickled blackberries, sugarsnap peas and brussels sprouts followed by a tangerine. Tomorrow I'll have another go at a slow cooker dish with what's left.
So, the upshot of all that is that today was a NSD here too, hooray.7 -
@goldfinches - I still haven't tried the SimplyCook spices yet either but as they're just dried spices they'll keep! Will get round to using them sometime, perhaps when I do my next menu plan, for at least a couple of them. I've already planned until the end of this month.

Did you say pickled blackberries @goldfinches? I've never heard of the like

Eggs, milk & egg whites bought yesterday in Tesco, also got 1/2 punnet of raspberries of my mum.
DD loves them and is with Nanny on Wed so what she didn't eat came home with her.
We're away at the In-Laws from tomorrow night so shouldn't need anything until Monday - potentially travel snacks which I'll allocate to Grocery budget, otherwise will just be a few fresh bits to see us through Mon - Thu next week.

£56.92 added to my total following a dash round town. This included meat to last the next week, baker's bread, a new light bulb for OH's WFH office, some special shampoo for me as my scalp seems to have become overly sensitive lately, plus cream, mozzarella, sliced bread & bagels from W8rose for the hoi-polloi who can't be bothered with the bread-knife! More will be spent tomorrow at the market, on fish, cheese, fresh fruit & vegetables.
Allotment produce & eggs are beginning to dwindle now. I'm going to miss our HG leeks this winter; most of mine, planted in May, are just about pencil-sized now! But we will still have kale & chard; there are a few little cabbages (might make sauerkraut with those) potatoes, some runner beans & a fair few raspberries yet to come - we've picked those into December before now. I did in the end get one peculiar pumpkin/squash, and there's a "proper" Ute squash ripening up, plus a couple of butternuts that may or may not have time to get to an edible size. But overall it's been a rather disappointing season on the allotment & in the garden.Angie - GC Aug25: £106.61/£550 : 2025 Fashion on the Ration Challenge: 26/68: (Money's just a substitute for time & talent...)5
