ASDA online grocery shopping

Options
I have been a happy Tesco online grocery shopper for 5 years now and have been very pleased with them. Unfortunately, I am too late this year to get our Christmas shop delivered by them. I live in a city with a population of 90,000, with 2 large Tesco stores and I'm amazed all the slots from the 19th up until the 26th are taken so soon. I've never used Asda online before but I'm thinking of getting our Christmas shop with them now. I can't seem to find out if they have delivery slots available for the 21st or 22nd though. Do any of you know? I'm a bit deflated as I really want to avoid the hassle of going to Tesco, and we are used to all their own brand stuff etc, plus ASDA seems to be a bit more expensive :(

BTW, am I right in thinking Tesco sometimes have been known to open up some slots at this time of year?
  • All the Tesco slots for the few days leading up to xmas had gone within 10 mins of being available ! People were sat waiting at midnight to book them on the day they were released. Sainsburys were the same but not sure about Asda, you could always ring CS ?

Oh well, I don't feel so bad now then - I had no chance :D I probably will ring ASDA, but I don't hold out much hope. I'm thinking we'll just go to Tescos in the middle of the night to avoid all the crowds.

I started shopping with Asda a few weeks ago and have been totally converted to them. It obviously depends on what you buy, but I have found their prices to be cheaper. Also if they substitue an item with something with a higher cost they do not charge the difference. The only problem is that there are not many free delivery codes floating around.

I've come a cropper twice with Asda (and only used them twice!). They charged a holding amount to my card initially (the amount the original order shows) and then charged the actual amount when the shopping was complete. Both times this amount was different, and so I had to phone the bank after embarrasing visits to shops thinking I had money spend, when it was all tied up in Asda. The bank can cancel the holding amount or it comes off your account after 7-10 days. This was difficult for me because we're on a budget. Other than this the picking and delivery was great.

  • I use a tiny Asda store in Bolton because it's nearest my house and I have no transport. I tried to use the online option for the monthly shop (filthy weather) and found that 5 out of the first 11 items were not available on line. (Silly things like only having one choice of cup-a-soup etc) In the end I sacked the idea and went to my local store. 58 out of 61 items I required were on the shelf. No contest!

I would try Tesco though as I have heard great things.

Thats quite worrying to read. I am on a budget too. I simply couldnt afford them to hold my shopping amount and take the cash out  .
I might have to stick to Tesco

I decided to get as much Xmas stuff as I could from Tesco, which will be delivered tonight. Anything else we will probably go to the actual store late at night. I think I'm gonna order beer and such from ASDA though, and get it delivered on the 20th. They seem to have a wider range than Tesco and I'd rather someone else carted it to the door :D There doesn't seem to be a great deal of special offers around at the moment though, will more appear in the coming days do you think?

I'm just about to checkout at ASDA, does it work the same as Tesco, in that you can amend your order before delivery?
