Hi
i have a satisfied default with Halifax which is due to drop off this week. I’m looking to apply for a mortgage once my credit file updates and is clear of the default. i was wondering whether To apply to the Halifax for a mortgage? Incidentally the account i defaulted is still open but has a zero balance and I’ve not used it since the default.
I think I’ve read some where bank hold their data indefinitely is this true? Based on the above how likely would a mortgage be approved

I dont think I wouldDon't put your trust into an Experian score - it is not a number any bank will ever use & it is generally a waste of money to purchase it. They are also selling you insurance you dont need.0

even after 6 years halifax will see default as it was with them. You will get an answer at the decision in principle stage as this would be factored into their scoring of you. If you pass DIP then you should be all clear for full ap. As kingstreet mentioned halifax are pretty forgiving and may not penalise you for one historic default1

if you use a broker and they are aware of the defaut then they will place you with the most appropriate lender. Good luck in your application1
