Bradford and Bingley mortgage paid letter

I dont know where to put this question but here goes. We paid our mortgage off in 1998 and received a letter from Bradford and Bingley saying that everything was settled with our deeds. I have not told my husband this but years ago I spilt a drink on the letter in question, tried saving it but it was irrepairable (I was just sat at the kitchen table having a look through while bored). Is there any way I could get a copy of this letter? I know I have left it too long and the building society were allready gone when this thing happed , but am worrying now because I dont want to leave my children with a problem.

What problem are you trying to solve? The property is unencumbered, i.e. mortgage charge free.1

You don't need the letter, just check with the Land Registry to make sure the charge was correctly removed. You can do it online and it will cost you about £3 to get a copy for your files. If you are being charged more than that you are not on the real Land Registry site...
