Potential old British gas debt

  • Even with a prepayment meter when leaving the property you should be contacting the provider to tell them you're moving, so would the debt even actually stay with the meter? If the change of energy-user wasn't picked up by the former one notifying they have left, the new householders would surely confirm that they had moved in?

Can a debt put on a prepayment meter becomecstatute barred as long as the meter is in place as technically payments are still being made although not by the original party? (Not wanting to panic anyone, this is more hypothetical) plus I would assume whoever lifes there now would not have the prepay meter in place.
    You are overthinking this.

To comply with the Limitation Act, payments must be made by 'the debtor or his agent'

Your worrying about something that most likely doesn't even exist, all this pre-speculation can be very damaging, if they were looking for you, they would have traced you by now, in any case, any alleged debt would be statute barred, and as you have no judgements on your file, all is good, time to move on.
