Finally getting the ball rolling on installing panels.  My roof is a bit odd https://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/discussion/6286173/roof-orientation-and-panels
I have had one company out and they have suggested 7 x 340W panels, split at 3 and 4 panels, along with inverter.  They have quoted me £ 4300.
This to me sounds really steep, they have factored in additional scaffolding work, single string inverter and dual tracker.  Included is birdproofing etc.

I requested microinverters (enphase) and they added another 800.   I was hoping to add some more panels in the front of the house or get panels with more output.

What do you all think about this quote?

It does seem expensive but the smaller the array the higher it will cost per w added in the fact its on 2 roofs it probably about right.

I've done a bit of research on panels what make of panels are in the quote?

Also what is the sizes of the areas you can put panels on?

It could be that 340w panels are best fit or it could be that the company only like installing certain panels.

I would think a multi string inverter would be better unless you suffer from shading the micro inverter probably won't pay for themselves but nothing wrong with using them.

  • The panels QCell 340 W, yes there will be shading for a few hours due to a large tree.

the Qcells panel is 1673 x 1030 so for example the area of roof was 3m wide by 3.5m height to could get 4 in.= 1360w

    but you could also get 4 400w sunpower panels at 1690 x 1046 = 1600w

    or

    or 6 x 345w JA panels as they are 1657 x 996 = 2070w

So it's the available area that's important to know.

Also there is nothing stopping you (I think) from having different panels on each roof , with micro inverters you could probably have a mix of panels on the same roof , although that may look ugly.

  • Had a few more quotes, to make it equitable comparison
    First quote - £2.2 per W
Second quote - £2.27 - 2.54 per W depending on the make of the panel.

  • Getting somewhere £1.54 per W using enphase and split over multiple roofs

  • Did you contact enphase direct or via an installer? My best quote so far has been under <£1/W with SolarEdge. Site survey tomorrow...

Thats a fantastic quote! Let me know how it goes, might see if they will give me a quote.   :)
    via installers.
The quotes seems to be all over the place.  Some have refused to even look at E facing roof, not sure why they would do it?  The rate of rise of electricity prices makes all this a no brainer!
