Well, there do seem to have been some pretty poopy replies to the question, don't there...
However, there does seem to be little recourse in finding out that a job is significantly not as advertised, other than drawing the conclusion that the employer's word can't be relied on.
If asking whether the training is available and (politely) pointing out that it was in the job ad leads to a brick wall, then that seems to be the position at this point in time.
You could try taking a longer view by showing your value by working hard and perhaps getting promoted to a position which does include the desired training.
The alternative is deciding to move on.
(I don't think redundancy is an option; as has been pointed out, the employer could just give you your notice for little to no reason.)

I think it is worth you raising it - perhaps with HR and whoever your own line manager is - explain that it was something which attracted you to the job, as you want to be be able to progress within the organization, and that it was explicitly stated in the ad and discussed in the interview.
Have you been told explicitly that it won't be possible?
If you approach your enquiry as "I was explicitly told this was something which would be possible within this role, I've since been told that that may not be the case, can you clarify, and also confirm whether, if it's not available to someone in my present role, whether it's something I might be able to work towards, and which roles within the organization is this training available for?

that way, if the issue is that you are a junior salesperson and the training is only for deputy managers and above (for instance) then they should be able to explain, an you can take a view on whether you want to work your way up to that point .*and, especially if you haven't been told explicitly by someone who administers it, it;'s possible that it will be available but you can't be considered until you have been there x months / years. or that it is only available in larger stores and they use boilerplate ads.
All posts are my personal opinion, not formal advice Always get proper, professional advice (particularly about anything legal!)

I am yet to receive an invitation to commence the training therefore I queried this. I have since learned from higher up the chain of command that apparently, due to my job role I am in fact ineligible for the training, despite it being stipulated on the job advert that the option was available.
Situations can change rapidly. What was planned may have been shelved for the time being. Not least if there's potentially restructuring being considered within the organisation.

Being slightly cynical. Existing employees seen the advert and raised the question "Where is my free training?". Management then realised that they have zero training budget for those numbers. The rest is now history.

Glad to read some of the latter replies, as from what it reads to me the training was (and always was) one of the attractive parts of the role and it seems the original poster did make the effort to clarify these details, so to find the training isn't happening isn't actually very pleasant at all - and in that sense if that's all the case then i think the company have treat them badly.

Circumstances do change - and there's a lot of changing circumstances at the moment, and so eamon's apparent cynicism might not be all that far from the mark!

That said it doesn't sound like there's a lot of recourse possible, is there any chance you could take this training independently? sometimes it can be beneficial 'to go your own way' even if its before you 'part ways'. I've done a fair number of certifications and still doing some more and some have been covered by my employer but most haven't and apart from the finance aspect it's nice to have that bit of independence.
