I have been paid and Mrs E will be paid tomorrow. Thanks to the generosity of those who went before us and a bit of planning on our part, we now have a walking around NW in the five figures. I never really thought we'd get there
While our first instinct is to come up with some expensive project to spend the money on, we're being grown up. There is still an expectation that there will be a wee windfall when FIL's estate settles (explicitly stated, unprompted, by MIL, not because we're grabby). We are not starting another project until we know where we stand overall. What I am doing with our current surplus cash is transferring it to Mrs E so that she can fill her ISA and then withdraw the money again. We have flexible ISAs, so this will give us both a cushion to stuff with future windfalls and is quite straightforward as spouses can basically do what they like re. passing money to each other£8.40 OPed and £2 withdrawn from TCB.
*Edit: As a good example of the gummint being as fair as they are unfair, I notice that my tax allowance has been increased by £230 in relation to contributions into my SIPP last year. Not entirely sure how much is intermediate tax and how much HR tax, but I'll assume it has been done correctly.6 -
£14.03 OPed, £31.52 paid into my SIPP (£39.40 after tax relief), 54p cashback.
Booked the hotel in Oban for a night before our summer holiday to the Western Isles, wee surprise for Mrs E.
I am down in the dumps. Had an office day today and there is very little chat in my team. Also feeling tired and hungry (getting used to the diet again) and stretched a bit thin at home
Early night beckons7 -
Sympathies for the dumps day - I get those. Why is there so little chat in your team do you think? Stretched too thin, too diverse / similar in personality mix, don’t know each other well enough?Lovely idea to surprise Mrs E with that extra night 😊❤️

It's a mix of things @KajiKita - a career that attracts worriers? Overwork, quite a broad demographic range etc. I've been there for nearly 8 years now, the previous post I had for about that time led to a couple of good friendships.5

Has it always been like that, or do you think there could be some nervousness around your absence last year and them not knowing the "right things to say" etc?Mortgage start: £65,495 (March 2016)

Not that I can think of any suggestions how you might overcome that!Mortgage start: £65,495 (March 2016)

@South_coast Like all overthinkers, I've considered that but nah, has been that way for at least 5 years.
Much better day today. A whole 7.5 hours in bed, weight going in the right direction and got to meet DD2s nursery teacher. Have come to the realisation that I'm happier than I have been in years, all things considered. I think that's maybe why my down day felt so down9 -
