Personally found that a fascinating post @Suffolk_lass have a dream of converting a very small barn that I have into a one bedroom property for me. Thought it was too small but then I started looking at mobile homes and realised it might not be at all.Made it to mortgage free but what a muddle that became
In the event the proverbial hits the fan then co-habitees are better stashing their cash than being mortgage free !!4 -
My annoyance with the architect knows no bounds. Despite being told in black and white to prepare and then submit a full submission for building warrant (and stating that the instruction was perfectly clear), he has missed off certain documents that he plans to add "in due course". Further to this, the structural engineer has currently submitted sweet FA, despite the architect suggesting in an earlier email that his submissions had been completed. Fair enough, you might say that the architect is not the structural engineer's keeper, but his fee statement clearly states that he is responsible for liaison with said professional and ensuring that this part of the paperwork is completed timeously. What's more annoying? The fact that I now need to pay the architect the rest of his fees, as letter states "on submission", not "on full submission"
Now I understood why he was so keen to try and scamp as slim a submission as possible... Mrs E is trying to be optimistic and saying that maybe he's taken this approach in the past and it has been fine, I'm not so confident. We have asked the bank to release our additional borrowing - my challenge for January/February will be trying to find the additional £200ish that this will add to our repayments so that we can continue to save towards extension costs.
On a positive note, we'll both have had our booster jags by the end of the week5 -
I'm not surprised you are annoyed. The one good thing - you know which architect NOT to recommend to your friends.

@badmemory - you are absolutely right! It's a shame, because he's a friendly enough soul with decent ideas, he's just a bit of a blowhard who seems to be poor at scheduling and basic admin
Still, with a little luck we'll get the Building Warrant and our builders will be able to tolerate him when we actually get a builder sorted. Trying to be grateful for the fact that we can afford any sort of extension more than focusing on the negatives, eh?
