Competitive house insurance

My current house insurance provider has quoted £665 for renewal.I live in a rural area with v low crime rate, detached 70's bungalow of traditional build, it's been extended and has 5 bedrooms, 3 bathrooms,1 reception room. Is this a high quote, every year I go to a different provider and can just about squeeze it in under £400 usually. Any suggestions, most people I speak to are paying a pittance. Prices are consistently high whether I put jewellery into the quote or not. No claims made in the last 9 years.

You generally dont get a choice if you want to insure your jewellery as they are part of your contents hence the question is "how much is your contents worth" not "how much of your contents do you want to insure".
The UK average is about £146 but the average policy doesnt have Accidental Damage Cover, doesnt have Personal Possessions Cover etc. My lowest quote for contents only is about what you are saying for B&C (we are leasehold so no building cover needed) and most quotes are nearer £1,000.
Ultimately make sure your sums insured are appropriate, or go for a room rated policy with "unlimited"/very high limits. Remember rebuild cost isnt the same as purchase price (is normally a lot lower can be higher). Consider if you need Personal Possession Cover etc.
Personally don't complain as I know I'm not in the majority and having bought more expensive things than the average person it follows I pay more insurance on them too.0
