Transfer of ownership and Mortgages

I'm rather confused and unable to find the right info so thought I'd ask here.
I've split with my GF and all is good, we are in no rush to sort this out. The current mortgage runs out in July 2022.
Now I've read it's best to look for a mortgage some 6 months before so around Jan 2022.
But, I'm confused at what point we should move forward with the transfer of ownership, is it at the point of the new mortgage?
I'm also confused if this will be a remortgage?
Is it better to do the transfer of ownership before looking for a mortgage?
As I said we are in no rush and both want to do what is most economic
Thanks

Everything ties in together. You'll need to apply for a mortgage in your own right and pass lenders checks and criteria.0

Would it be classed as a new mortgage vs remortgage? (might be a really stupid question as I'm remortgaging but it's no longer a joint mortgage so could be new)
