Do Halifax do a 2nd credit check?

We have passed the initial stages with Halifax including credit check and affordability. We are waiting for the mortgage offer.  Do you know if they do a second credit check? There is already 1 hard search they did which passed, but it knocked my score down. Also we want to order a new kitchen which is interest free but don't want this to ruin the mortgage if they do another check.
Thanks

    Nobody can guarantee they won't.

If you don't want to run the risk of getting the mortgage offer rescinded, don't apply for any more credit.

The Halifax system does multiple checks at different points in the process. Every time something changes or something is added like the arrival of the valuation report, the case re-scores.

  • Its annoying that they do multiple.
I think one at application and last one before offer is enough.
As that lets them know if anything has changed between application and them giving the offer.

    Ahh scary.
Hope they're not too strict then. Credit card balance showed a few hundred as we paid off our holiday, even tho its now paid off the credit report just seems to have a snapshot of the balance from a random day in the month.
Also my phone contract I took out in Feb has just appeared on 1st August.
The hard search from Halifax has knocked the score down. Hoping the rest are softs.

I only had a hard check and single check the day after my application to halifax. But do not apply for any more credit before completion! There's no guarantee any lender won't do another check.

Also don't worry about the hard check knocking your credit score. The score you see by TransUnion/Equifax/Experian isn't seen by lenders. Lenders have their own internal scoring system that uses the info they see on your credit report. Lenders don't see your credit rating agencies' scores, you don't see the lender's score.

Generally one or two hard searches will have minimal impact so I wouldn't worry about it with regards to your kitchen. However it's best not to apply for credit between your mortgage offer and completion, not worth the risk and banks don't like when you open new lines of credit while in the process of getting a mortgage. Your kitchen repayments will affect the lender's  affordability assessment.
  • Yeah I hope they only do 1 as I had 1 hard check by Barclays in August and then another by Halifax this month.
  • Had our mortgage offer put on today. So now its gone to conveyancing. No extra searches on experian yet.

Is that it or could they still do another search and then back out?
  • They could potentially do another check at anytime before completion. The hard and fast rule is do not apply for any other credit until completion except things like insurance.

You certainly should not be signing up for credit before completion.

OP which is more important, New kitchen or house, of which a kitchen without a house is futile.

    No new credit before completion.
