Everyone Active Membership renewal

I have an annual membership with Everyone Active who run my local council leisure centres. The deal was pretty good - pay £250 upfront and get essentially unlimited access to multiple sites in the city. This included court bookings, as well as gym/swimming etc. Although I got the membership with a view to using the pool, its actually been the court bookings that have worked out really well. They normally cost about £10 per hour and I use them regularly. Unfortunately, EA have changed their membership options and despite various phonecalls it seems like I can no longer get any kind of membership that includes court bookings - they have to be pay as you go with any 'new' membership.

When I first clicked on the renewal email link I thought it did give me an option to renew my existing membership for £430 ish. This seems like a lot - particularly compared to the deal I had! - but given the cost of peak time courts on pay as you play, it might actually still have been worth it. I now can't seem to find that option anymore (I'm sure I didn't imagine it!). My question is, would Everyone Active have an obligation to let me renew my existing membership type (i.e. with inclusive court booking) if I don't let that existing membership lapse? i.e. is there some kind of 'legacy' thing where they have to give existing customers the option to carry on as we are?

An alternative that I'd considered is a MoveGB membership, which is cheaper on the face of it, but is generally a bit less flexible. I'd also have a slight concern that if MoveGB changed their membership costs or what centres/activities are included, then I'd have no option to go back to my EA membership as it would have lapsed.

Any suggestions appreciated! Maybe I'm clutching at straws, but it would be great to try and keep the cost down in some way and I'm struggling with what the best option might be.

No. They're under no obligation to keep offering out-dated products. You pay for and receive the corresponding product on an annual basis.
  • Thanks - if it's as straightforward as that then it looks like it isn't something I can push for, which simplifies things a bit. I do need to clarify whether they do actually offer a 'legacy' renewal or whether whatever I saw in terms of pricing was just a glitch.
  • A bit of a follow up on this, as I've still be digging around in an attempt to find the best deal I can.

I've managed to find the link in the app to renew my membership at a cost of about £430 via the app. It very clearly states my existing membership type and the button says 'Renew'. It then takes me through to a payment page. Nowhere in this sequence of pages does it say that the membership is changing or that I am losing anything I currently have access to.

My inclination is to give this a go and pay the money if it will let me. What is making me a bit nervous is that no-one I have spoken to over the phone at my local lesiure centre seems to be very familiar with this and just keeps quoting that they no longer do inclusive courts i.e. implying that even if I'm renewing, court bookings would no longer be included. I've been told that there is a 14 day refund policy (so I could just give it a go and see if it lets me book) but the Ts&Cs on their website say that this applies to new memberships only. Mine would not be a new membership.

Does anyone know where things stand if Everyone Active came back and claimed that my membership had changed even if I paid the higher price? Given that the app clearly states it is a renewal, I feel like I would then be in a position to claim a refund, even if it is not a new membership.
  • I think if it is a renewal, it renews your already existing membership. So everything that came with your previous membership should be with the new one as well. And if they have a refund policy, then you can easily give it a go and see if it lets you book the court
