Not my debt, addressed to my house

Had a letter this morning at my address but to someone I don’t know. I’ve lived at my house for over 20 years. Will return to sender but I’m worried that someone has used my address. My bank card was cloned a while ago and I had to deal with fraudulent transactions in my bank account. Should I be worried?

  • Best thing is to check your credit report to see if there's anything you don't recognise on there.
  • Yep - check all the credit reference agencies to make sure, but personally I'd just ignore it assuming that flags up nothing worrying.

There's unlikely to be anything on your credit file as they are not allowed to link people by address without a joint financial product
  • We had four letters a few years ago.  I opened them as we had lived here 24 years.  Someone was opening bank accounts for our address and running up small overdrafts.  £90-£95 - just enough to not be too obvious but if they doing it to numerous addresses......??????

I took them to the individual bank branches with ID and a copy of our council tax bill and the cashiers dealt with them then and there.  Lloyds had already sussed they had been duped.
