Tax Rebate for this Financial Year

I recently stopped work as I have gone abroad for 6 months. Due to my salary I was paying higher rate tax on my earnings for the 3 months of the year I worked.  Consequently I have paid too much tax by about £4000 and would very much like it back!

I completed an online request and provided my P45 info at the end of may when I left my job but have heard nothing from HMRC as yet.  I can't see a way of changing my estimated earnings on my personal tax account either.

I can't complete the form for being overseas as that states you should do it if you're moving abroad permanently, and I'm not.  However I probably won't be back this tax year and if I am I won't claim benefits or work.

Do I just have to wait until April when they figure it out themselves or is there a way to get the money back sooner?
