Tax Rebate for this Financial Year

in Cutting tax
I recently stopped work as I have gone abroad for 6 months. Due to my salary I was paying higher rate tax on my earnings for the 3 months of the year I worked. Consequently I have paid too much tax by about £4000 and would very much like it back!
I completed an online request and provided my P45 info at the end of may when I left my job but have heard nothing from HMRC as yet. I can't see a way of changing my estimated earnings on my personal tax account either.
I can't complete the form for being overseas as that states you should do it if you're moving abroad permanently, and I'm not. However I probably won't be back this tax year and if I am I won't claim benefits or work.
Do I just have to wait until April when they figure it out themselves or is there a way to get the money back sooner?

Do you mean you completed form P50?
Have you checked the progress of this on your Personal Tax Account?1 -

Hi. Yes I completed a P50 online some months ago. However when I look in my personal tax account I can't see the claim reference number at all.
I have resubmitted it again today.
If I have to wait until the end of the tax year so be it!0
