CCJ from 2009. New 3rd party debt collector contact

I was contacted by Hoist Finance in Jan 21 by text asking me to get in touch. I e-mailed a reply stating I didn’t recognise them or the reference. They e-mailed a reply confirming a HBOS debt from the early noughties for a credit card £6.2k I sent a statute barred letter. They replied confirming n/a as a CCJ was issued by Nuneaton CC in 2009. I haven’t responded since as I panicked and then I guess things are slow due to home working. Now received a “reconnection” letter threatening a home visit. I read this thread and so similar but different. I don’t know what to do? I had a bad time for 12 years due to high mortgage and child care costs plus mental health problems as a consequence in the noughties. Largely back on my feet but would struggle with this at this time. Seems unfair that they have bought this debt after all this time? Should I call their bluff and reply that they’ll need to refer back to CC? Any advice gratefully received.

My understanding is if they haven't attempted to collect within 6 years of it being issued, they have to apply to the courts again and let them know why.1

A 12 year old judgement is unlikely to be granted court approval to further enforce after all this time.
They would have to come up with a really good reason why, in the last 12 years, they have not chosen to enforce said judgement, when you have been easily contactable.
Hoist have form for buying up old debts with questionable enforcement issues, in the hope you will cave in and pay up.
Home visit's are another "pay up now threat" they are only debt collectors, they have no more power than you or I do, you can simply ignore them, tell them to go away, film them, make a cup of tea, call the police for trespassing, whatever you like.
My response would be in writing reminding them of there duty to get the court to approve any further action, before you will even consider dealing with them, my guess is you won`t hear from them again.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the Debt free wannabe, Credit file and ratings, and Bankruptcy and living with it boards.
