CCJ Advice

Hello I’m looking for some help regarding a old CCJ I have on my credit file.
It’s for a student grant for over a grand, I was only able to pay small amount towards it over the years because of my situation and had plans in place for around £20 a month.
I then lost my Dad and have had some financial difficulty of late and completely forgot about the plan in place, nothing has been paid towards it for 2 years nearly.
They contacted me yesterday asking for me to start repayment. I’m not in a position to do so.
The CCJ will be 6 years old a month today and I would expect to drop off my file?
If this is the case can they still pursue me for repayment after this, and if I contact them and explain my situation will the debt still drop off?
what do you think is the best course of action?
thank you

The judgement will drop off your file on the 6th anniversary, regardless of what happens.
Yes they can still pursue you, debts subject to legal action never go statute barred, however after 6 years has elapsed, they would need court permission to do so.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the Debt free wannabe, Credit file and ratings, and Bankruptcy and living with it boards.
