Have a debenhams Gift card was given after I returned some items in store and didnt have the original debit card. I asked before she added the credit can it be used on line and instore and she said '' yes of course as long as it's before the company shuts for good''. She missed out the minor detail they stop accepting gift cards on the website the very next day!
After emailing the business email address numerous times I am still no closer to receiving the £80+ I had on that card nor any wiser. Please could someone advise will I ever get my money back or is that now down the drain??
I have attached replies from them, which should make what I mean a little clearer. Everytime I have emailed to ask what the current situation is all I get in response is we do not accept giftcards. Yes I know but what is happening in regards to my situation!!!.😤😤 Very frustrating hope someone can make it a little clearer🙏🙏

It's very unlikely you'll see your money again. You've been added to the list of unsecured claims, which basically means that when the company went into administration, whatever assets they had would be used to pay off their debts, starting with the most important first. Your unsecured debt is right at the bottom of the pile. There is a chance you'll get something back, but it'll likely be pence rather than pounds.1

The associate on the till gave information in good faith, they didn't know what is going to happen and effectively they did "shut for good" the next day.
Debenhams issues were talked about several times in the news in the last two years and this site often mentions that gift cards are a huge risk as you lose the money when a company goes bust, so it shouldn't come as a surprise.0
