Tax free childcare balance

Hi all,

Been searching the internet but haven't found the answer so wondering if forumites can help.

I know that government stops contributions to the tax free childcare account (25% up to 2k per child) when the child turns 11/12.

My question is what happens to the balance at that time?. Let's say I still have 10k in my child's account when he turns 12.

Is it...
Scenario A: I can run down the balance over the next few years via sports clubs and other childcare providers until the child turns 16?

Or
Scenario B: I need to close that account when my child turns 11/12 and withdraw the 8k (govt takes back the other 2k unused bonus)?

My child is only 7 and I'm building up a healthy balance that I might not be able to use in next 5 years so tempted to stop topping up the account if the answer is B.

If the answer is A then I will defo continue to max outu the top up of 2k per quarter (so govt adds the £500)

Thanks in advance
