I completed online application for renewal of my passport, sent old one via secure delivery with signed for service. So far Royal mail say it has been delivered but passport office say different. On checking via the royal mail tracking service I see the recorded signature is simply a scrawled l ɣ x what kind of signature is this. Are they employing idiots at the Passport Office and the Royal Mail for accepting such a signature. That is a totally non traceable signature and I worry that my Passport has gone awaol??

Now that is off your chest...
I expect they receive hundreds, if not thousands of passports this way everyday. Give it a few days and every likelihood that it will work it’s way through their system.
Rather rude and unnecessary to call their staff idiots. I hope you will apologise once you get your passport renewal processed.2 -
Signed for to large organisations was never individually signed for anyway. It is taken on trust that that particular item was tracked into the big bag of mail that was delivered. The item has been delivered to the passport office, whether or not it has got as far as being internally sorted is another matter.

That 'signature' is what the postman puts. Deliveries haven't been signed for by the recipient since the start of Covid.
It is normally IDX0 -
The mail is signed for at the sorting office by Royal mail before is goes out for delivery (new measures since COVID). They are then scanned in bulk when received at the passport office where they are scanned. There is a limited amount of staff working as a lot of staff have been seconded out to other departments to help with European Union settlement applications, Afghanistan emergency and asylum claims. There is still a limited number of staff actually allowed into the office to process applications, hence the change in processing times to 10 weeks. So no the passport office is not employing idiots, just very stressed overworked people doing their best.abc217px said:I completed online application for renewal of my passport, sent old one via secure delivery with signed for service.
