Old Style Daily Saturday 28 August 2021

Gers

This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!
As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or SLOW internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.

Morning everyone. The weather forecast promises sunshine today but no sign of it yet. I have high hopes and have a full load of washing ready in the machine which I want to hang outside.Welcome home Dumpling 🎉
Welcome home TA 🎉
Yesterday I picked at doing things, short bursts of activity with longer interludes of non-activity, I really need to reverse that today. At least I've cleared the small piles of stuff I'd concealed behind cushions on the sofas 😀 which were annoying me. I had a lovely long chat with my SIL in QLD and a friend in Victoria, we've established a weekly three way phone call which I'm really enjoying. These chats have got me thinking about maybe going out to Oz one more time, something I swore I'd never do.Today I have my list to hand with a random collection of 'things to get done' in no particular order. Life is certainly a tad whimsical just now as I wait for Confirmation to be granted and then the flat sale to be concluded. As I lie in bed I'm eyeing up my jumper drawer which may get my attention before I go downstairs, it's nagging at me.I wish everyone a very happy Saturday.11 -
Morning all.
Thanks for the thread Gers and hugs to all those in need.
We finally have Wi-Fi and phone signal again, the mooring is flat and unlike the last few days, wasp free. The weather is back to cold and grey after a few sunny days.
Have a good day everyone.
Hugs HesterChin up, Titus out.10 -
Morning folks and thanks GERS. Yesterday was cloudy all day and felt quite autumnal but this morning we have sunshine and the forecast says we will have 21 deg. A last hope that summer hasn't left us just yet.
The plumber didn't arrive yesterday as he was having printer trouble and couldn't print off my bill - what a shame!! But he is coming this afternoon to go through the system with me and bring the dreaded bill! My original estimate was only for the new boiler and work on that as the cost of replacing all the pipework under the house was an unknown quantity. So I have no idea what to expect!
I need to make my usual Saturday morning trip into town on the first bus but it will be a quicky and then back on the next bus. A few bits I can't get on my sm delivery tomorrow.
Have a good day folks if you can and ((HUGS)) for our poorlies and MIA. Our absentee list of regulars is growing, first AOD and now NAN and SCARLET R. I hope they are just having a break and nothing is amiss with them. DUMPLING pleased you are getting sorted. Take care one and all and stay safe x"If you dream alone it will remain just a dream. But if we all dream together it will become reality"12 -
Morning All
Lovely sunny morning here, the bedding is about to go on the line. We've had a lovely spell of warm, sunny weather which should last another few days yet, it's been lovely to come home from work and sit out for an hour, the downside to that is that no housework has been done!
Going to Glasgow today so DD can relieve me of money for new winter boots for the little one, I'm thinking of buying a new Fitbit too as mine is losing charge too quickly, I'll have a look. Taking the little one swimming this afternoon, something I've been missing since I went back to work.
Pleased you're home dumpling, hope you've had a good sleep.
Lovely you've comeback to a clean and tidy house TA, hope the bill isn't too steep.
Have a great holiday Ruby, you certainly deserve it.
I'm with you on the trip to Oz Gers, it's 2 years since I came back and I'm missing it!
Must get petrol this morning and I've a collection waiting at Asda for school so had better get moving. Have a good weekend, take care. XX11 -
Morning everyone
Gers - thanks for starting us off x
Hugs to those that want/need them, those who are poorly and those who are looking after a poorly person x
Happy birthday to those with a birthday x
Now light, sun trying to break through some thin cloud, air feels cool though.
DH watching catchup tv, I'm showered, dressed and enjoying a brekkie bar and a cuppa whilst on here, DS1 still in his pit and DS2 settled and happy.
Dinner last night breaded chicken steaks, chips and beans for the menfolk. I had fishcakes and salad. Tonight I think will be chicken curry and rice. Tomorrow roast lamb.
Yesterday I got done everything I needed to, so was pleased with that. So hoping to have a chilled weekend.
Elderly relative still in hospital, seems that still no-one wants to make a decision although some things seem to be moving along just not there yet, but the major thing whilst not life threatening at the moment must be sorted it can't continue as it is long term. Hoping for more positive news over the coming days.
Keep safe and well x

Morning all
Bright and sunny here looks to be a nice day I have a wash on the go which can be hung out today.
I am waiting to check in online at 830 this morning, I think I have jumped through all the hoops they make you do regarding covid, but wont be convinced until I am atually on the plane !
I am off to get my legs waxed this morning and get my nails painted then home to pack the last few bits and get myself sorted, we need to get up at 2.30so will be going to bed very early tonight.
Not sure about dinner as the fridge is empty, (dd is away herself for a few days later in the week so we have run things down she will just buy what she needs for a few days, ) we will nip to the shop later and get something for dinner.
Dumpling I am so glad you are home xx
Have good days all xx11 -
An hour and a half later and I am showered and dressed, jumper drawers sorted through with two bags for the CS and a washing load in the machine. So many jumpers I had I haven't worn for years and won't wear again, mostly because they are too big, those which aren't are too short, I like an over the hip length rather than the on the top of the hip. So, new life means new jumpers. Its very MSE as I'm recycling to Barnados. The sun hasn't come up as far as me yet, it seems to be lingering around Camelot!Ruby - exciting times for you, my fingers are tightly crossed.I miss a lot of people from here.12

Morning all; still dull here. I think the North has the sunshine this morning.
Yesterday we did a shortish walk, mainly as an excuse to have lunch at a new Farm shop I'd noticed! It had only opened in October and is very much a family run business but they are already expanding their car park and have permission to convert an unused barn as well. We didn't have room for cake so brought two pieces home in a takeaway box. Good luck to them; it's brave opening that sort of business in a small village during the pandemic.
The ironing didn't get done as I sat and watched the Test Match so I need to tackle that today. Will make a Thai chicken curry for tonight and I've just seen a good recipe online for satay sauce , so have saved that.
Happy BH Saturday everyone.9 -
Hi everyone,
My laptop just shut down unexpectedly and I lost my post. I was wittering about an orchid I have in the room, it's blooming profusely and beautifully but the leaves are yelllowing. I won it in a raffle about four or five years ago and it's flowered a least twice a year since then so I will be sad if it dies. Any suggestions.
We're hoping to go for a walk with Chris and Crystal somewhere near St Ives today although he was saying he needs to work this weekend. He's quite stressed at the moment and no wonder because he's a supply chain manager for one of the big German supermarkets.
I want to continue a task I began yesterday, measuring and labelling some of the long lengths of fabric I have stored. I have 6 quilt tops I have decided to pay to be longarm quilted so I wanted to see what backing fabric I have that would be suitable.
Dumpling glad to see you are home.

Any suggestions. My DM had an orchid for many years - for about three or four it was only a twig, no leaves, no flowers, nothing. It was just sitting on the hearth of the dining room. Then, suddenly it began to show little buds and came back to life again. It then had two years of being in blossom, big beautiful blooms too, it gave her such pleasure. A few weeks before she died, it died back again so I gave it to a friend. It was given water only on the odd occasion during it's hibernation. Perhaps some orchid food may accelerate a re-awakening?
