Can't make AMEX payment

I have a statement balance of £830 and a balance of £817 due to a refund.
The app tells me I cannot pay £830.
The website (twice) lets me make the payment and bank says it's succeeded but it doesn't appear.
So 3 times I can't make the payment.
Amex advised me to pay the full £830 but I can't.
Does anyone know if the refund counts in the interest calculation? (it's after the statement date but before the due date).

I have it in messaging that I can pay the total which should cover me.
Yes that is an option (bit of a hassle to set up with keypad thingy and MFA).
I had a feeling Amex might be different in the way it calculates.0
