Secondment Query.

Hi All, I’ve have been asked my my company to be seconded to another department for 6 weeks. I will be working more hours and changing shift patterns to cover holidays. I started on Monday and have been told that my hourly rate of pay will drop by £2!!! Can my company do this? Many thanks

Speak with your line manager urgently. Even if there is a £2 P/H differential (i assume it p/h), they have a brass neck pulling that move.
If they wont move, ask to be reinstated to you substantive post, and remind them this is of their making.

Yeah this is cheeky. I'm currently on secondment and my pay hasn't changed which is sort of what id expect on a 'covering for someone' temporary basis.

However to shuffle someone across temporarily for the benefit of the company and take a pay cut for the extra stress, i'd be wanting a chat.

As I wasn't confident on the secondment process i explicitly asked to return the right to return to my original post of things didn't work out, this was granted (and the cheeky sod tried to change it later, though this is a story for another day) - but i think most secondments work on this principle anyway so I don't really see any harm in saying if you want to pay me less then expect me to return to my original post.

It might cause problems though you can't help that.
  • Thank you both, tried the line manager  :/ then went to the head of HR, now all sorted!!
