Did you keep copies of your old passport or the application for the new one? If you, can you provide those together with proof that you have applied to renew?
Had your old passport expired? (If so, I don't think it would show up even if they check validity using the number)
If your old passport has not expired, and you have the passport number and expiry date they may be able to do an online check if they subscribe to any of the services set up to check this.
In the meantime, i would provide them with your copy birth certificate and copy of your change of name deed and also confirm in writing that they did take proof of your right to work when you first started, and ask the to re-check under your old as well as current name.
This site https://www.passportwaitingtime.co.uk/ records actual current waiting times for passports - at present it is showing around 18 days for an adult renewal - the change of name may mean it takes a bot longer but hopefully not the 5-8 weeks that they show on the passport agency website .All posts are my personal opinion, not formal advice Always get proper, professional advice (particularly about anything legal!)0 -
For a straight forward passport renewal turnaround when we did both of ours was a week.

Why would they need to "get away" with anything? It's a zero-hours contract. If they don't want to give someone hours because they are short on money, or for any other reason, they can just... not offer them any hours.MalMonroe said:Sounds to me like they are trying to get away with putting you on suspension without pay. If it was a UK passport, DWP may have access to the photo. This would be similar to the DVLA being able to use the photo from passport records.JatieKatie said:Hi all,
I've worked for my company for two years and sent in my right to work (UK passport) when I joined, all was well.
In my time during, I've had a legal name change.
Today I received an email from company saying they cannot find my right to work and I need to send them another copy.
I've explained to them about my name change and that they probably need to check under my old name. They told me that there is no such person.
Typically yesterday I sent away for a passport in my new name, sending along documents including...my old passport.
I don't have an ID card, I do have a copy of a UK birth certificate, but it is in my old name and I can get a copy of my National Insurance Letter but that is in my new name.
I've been told that without right to work I will effectively be suspended without pay (Zero hour contract) until I can provide it.
Since a passport can take 6-8 weeks (especially with the checking of documents for a name change) what are my rights?
I don't have the funds to survive with no work for 6-8 weeks and can't claim benefits without photo ID (passport as I don't drive)0 -
Employers should be checking original documents (or officially certified copies), not simply uncertified copies provided by the holder.TBagpuss said:Did you keep copies of your old passport or the application for the new one?
