Anyone aged 25 and under who is registered with a Scottish dental
practice can now get free NHS treatment. The change takes force
immediately and patients aren’t required to opt-in. Those who started a
course of NHS treatment before their 26th birthday can also now get this
for free.

The Scottish dentists learnt this in an email the Friday before it was due to begin on the Monday.
You can imagine the chaos that caused with the practice computer systems not set up to process 'free' treatment!
I'd be interested myself to hear how Scottish patients eligible for this free treatment have found it in practice? How to find a dentist.
1. Get recommendations from friends/family/neighbours/etc.
2. Once you have a short-list, VISIT the practices - dont just phone. Go on the pretext of getting a Practice Leaflet.
3. Assess the helpfulness of the staff and the level of the facilities.
4. Only book initial appointment when you find a place you are happy with.0
