Tax credits !!!!!!?

Hi..
I am seriously confused!
We are a family of 4, and have one child who is 16 and going to college who receives enhanced pip in both elements.
My husband went from being self employed and earning as round 12k per year to being employed from 1st Jan 2020, but was made redundant rather than being put on furlough, after much begging basically, his boss relented and took him back on furlough and he was kept on, with an approx yearly wage of 24k.
We ended up over paid in tax credits.
I still have £675 to repay.
I have checked my award and I am no longer to receive any tax credits.
My eldest daughter is going to college and my 14 yr old still at school.
I have done multiple benefits checkers which all say my entitlement should be around £155 per week, I had been receiving £108.28, with half going to repay the over payment, £54.14.

So I guess what I'm wondering is, for the year that you have a child turning 16 and potentially leaving education, is your award for that year based on that and then recalculated once they know that the child is staying?
Or do I just not get any tax credits for the rest of this tax year?
I have asked tax credits, who tell me that they just don't know until the system makes the decision.

Any advice?
Cheers

Exactly this. Payments stop on 31st August and award is then recalculated within a couple of weeks. You do need to report the changes to tell them your child is staying in full time education though.

I have to say I think it poor that HMRC staff seem unable to understand / explain their system to customers

Given the poor training that Tax Credits staff receive, do check your paperwork to ensure you are receiving the correct rates for the severely disabled child element.
