If you were in a mischievous mood you could suggest to your employer that, on account of you being a member of a "net pay" pension scheme, the tax they are deducting from those payments comprises an unauthorised deduction per Section 13 of the Employment Rights Act 1996 ... (I would suggest speaking to the CAB or another employment rights specialist before pursuing this avenue).

    Is this your scheme?

    Have you registered for evolink?
Yes and yes. That was how I was able to check my current plan total.

I can't provide too much detail unfortunately due to confidentiality clauses in my contract.

But I can say that Salary appears in the Payments section (in one column); but PAYE, NIC and Pension contributions appear in the Deductions section (in another column) - all three are included in the Total Deductions figure.

I would hope it doesn't come to that. I'm pretty sure this is just an honest mistake rather than anything sinister.

That said, it's good to know what avenues are available if they refuse to correct it.

    Thanks

Ok, so if salary is £3,000 and pension contribution is £300 has your tax been calculated on £3,000 or £2,700?

Some payslips have a taxable pay value as well as "salary"

NB.  NI will be calculated on £3,000 as there is no NI saving under net pay.

    That's a great point!

I just checked my final payslip for the previous tax year, and my total pay is identical to my Gross NIable and Gross Taxable figures. So the pension contributions are definitely being taken after tax.

Looks like I will need to have a word with them regarding the missing tax relief.

    Thank you!
