Old Style Daily Sunday 22 August 2021

Gers

This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!
As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or slow internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.

Morning folks. There's thick fog outside, a huge blanket covering everything, just not nice and certainly not inviting me to go out. I hope it burns off, mind you yesterday was miserable all day with persistent rain. After my trip up to Oban and back I did some more sorting through of stuff and then had another pile of papers to scan. They are now scrunched up in a bag, I'll burn them today if I can.Last night I had my first alcoholic drink in about two months when I toasted my DM and Aunt. It was my Aunt's funeral yesterday so I joined the family gathering in spirit.I'm going down to Glasgow tomorrow and want to take a load of books with me to deposit at a CS. The small CS's in my town aren't taking books just now, I just need them gone.TA - when I had my cat (in childhood) my DM got her used to the basket by feeding her in it sometimes and leaving the basket in a corner of a room so it was always there and open. I can't remember if it helped get the cat in it for visits to the vet. I still miss my cat, I often think about her charging up and down the stairs then sliding on the Lino to smash into the front door, then she'd do it again and again, so entertaining.Right, my day will start soon. Happy Sunday to all.12

Morning folks and thanks GERS for starting us off. No fog here but it's looking miserable nevertheless. The forecast thunderstorm didn't happen but we had rain on and off most of the day yesterday. The forecast for the week ahead is looking quite promising for most of us. I live in hope I will be sitting outside reading most days.
The plumber duly arrived yesterday morning with the new boiler and all it's accoutrements, intending to leave in the garage but I said in view of the surge of garage and shed break-ins hereabouts it might be safer in the house. So it's all now cluttering the hall up. He took the key and said he would keep me updated on progress. He hopes to have it all done by Wednesday/Thursday. It makes it easier for him me not being here as now he doesn't have to clear all his equipment away every night.
You'd be forgiven for thinking I am going away for a month the amount of stuff that's going with me! The site is just a quiet one with no facilities other than a shower and laundry block, and miles from the nearest shop so everything bar the kitchen sink needs to go with me. DD and his DP are coming to pick us up late morning, hopefully with an empty boot!!
I shall be semi-incommunicado for the week ahead with no wifi, other than the data on my phone, so can follow your posts but probably not reply as my stubby little fingers are not very good on phone keypads! Have a good day (and week!) folks if you can and ((HUGS)) for our poorlies, poorly loved ones and MIA. Take care one and all and be safe x

Good morning all, in a rush to take the dog for a nice countryside walk, but just wanted to wish TA a good stay in the caravan and hope that Sparkles likes it better on second visit, hopefully back later.
Hugs and spoons. The best thing about the future is that it comes one day at a time. (Abraham Lincoln)10 -
Morning all
TA enjoy your time away xxx
Bright and sunny here we are set for a nice day I think, OH has got his work clothes in the wm and they can be hung out later.
We got OH kitted out in some new clothes yesterday both asda and Mr T had sales on so he did quite well, we have to take one pair of shorts back today as they were on a 32 waist hanger but were a 38 waist, I hate it when that happens ! so we will run over there quickly today.
We also need to get the cases down today and air them, also the lawn needs mowing after that we will get the dogs out for long walk.
Might try and squeeze in a bbq in tonight too
Hope you have good days xxx10 -

Good morning all; dull again today. Late start for us today as we both slept in.
Yesterday we were meant to have the new patio sealed and had arranged with the chap who built it to leave the side gate open for him as we'd be going out. He then phoned to say he would have to postpone it because of the weather forecast and, guess what, he was right! Bucketed down in the late afternoon so patio now being sealed on Wednesday.
We had a family day out at The Silverstone Experience, which had been postponed twice already due to Covid. I enjoyed it more than I thought I would, as I'm not keen on noisy F1 racing, but this was more of a modern Museum and then we were allowed outside onto a fenced off piece of terracing to take photos etc plus there was some souped up ordinary car racing, which appealed to me more.
Today I've found a starling fluttering behind the door of the log burner; he must have fallen down the chimney. I was only commenting last week that there were a lot of birds on the roof and the topping bit on our chimney might let one in. We'll have to get that sorted plus the roof needs some moss clearing anyway.
We've defrosted just one largish chicken breast, which we'll cook and have with roast potatoes and all the trimmings today. DH does lovely roast potatoes so looking forward to that.
Happy Sunday everyone. TA I don't envy you the boiler upheaval; is it going to be a new condensing one?10 -

DGC arriving this evening for a week

Morning. hugs if you need one.
Spent most of yesterday trying to order a new phone, ended up calling them, the web page kept chucking me out.
It keeps clouding over with very dark clouds and then the sun comes through!! We had some rain yesterday, but not what was forecast. I was very restless for some reason, could not settle. DB had palps last night, so that put paid to my sleeping, very late getting up.
I am planning on getting rid of the huge wardrobe in our bedroom, it will make the room so much more spacious. I need to check all of DB's shirts there are quite a few he can no longer wear. Will not out all of them as he is loosing weight. Winter coats etc can go in the wardrobe in the back bedroom and I can also store out of season clothes in there. Will be looking for some of those multi hangers so I can get the rest in the smaller wardrobe in our bedroom. I need to turn the back bedroom wardrobe out and see what I can freecycle or sell. I also have 2 pairs of shoes I cannot wear, they are Clarks so were quite expensive. The cupboard in the hall could also do with a clear out.
Supper is roast chicken with veggies. We will finish off the crumble.6 -
Hi everyone,TA enjoy your break. We had a good afternoon out at the footie, spotted my DB, SIL and niece and had a quick chat before the game, then afterwards we took DS2 and the children out for tea to a restaurant near his house, the DGC kept us entertained with their chatter.DS had ordered a burger and asked for no tomato, the waitress wrote it down but it came plastered! in tomato relish, and had fresh tomato on too! They swapped it no bother though, and someone came to apologise separately too.Had a quick trip to lid1this morning , a top up shop so I can delay my T delivery until later in the week, then across the road to the range to get DGS a little toy he's been desperate for.Needless to say I had to get sthg for DGD too. It's her birthday next month so I need to ask what she'd like. The sun keeps popping in and out, more than we've seen all week. A lazy afternoon is planned now
Take care all x

Afternoon everyone
Been down to dad this morning while mam went to church. Checked his bank and replied to DDs email and sorted his Audible books. He has 6 to listen to but still unconvinced that's enough till I come home - I have tried to explain I'm only actually away 10 days!
DD and little one are going to a shopping centre in Edinburgh - I've declined my invitation as I'm planning on a nice peaceful afternoon and don't want to spend too much before I go on holiday. I've asked DD to look for a couple of things for me in Primark.
Little one woke at 6.30 this morning - I put her in bed with me and said it was still night time but she was having none of it! She kept snuggling down, then announcing loudly 'granny I think I need to go to hospital!'
'Why?' - ' cos I like nurses!'
She had a visit to the hospital last week when she'd drank some water which led to a chest infection and antibiotics - DD said the nurses made such a fuss of her.
Well I have a few jobs to do then my Sunday Times to read
Hope everyone has a good day
TA - enjoy your time away10
