Old Style Daily Saturday 21 August 2021

This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!
As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or SLOW internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.

Morning everyone.Mehefin - that's such sad news, you fought so hard for your beloved horse. ❤️The sky is a watery grey-blue shade, doesn't bode too well. Maybe another one for staying indoors, August hasn't been too kind so far.My day is fluid, I'll probably have to do a bit of shopping. The delivery of a fruit box from a local supplier has enough for the week so it's just a few bits and pieces to keep my vitamin levels up which are needed.Happy Saturday to all.12

Morning folks and thanks GERS. Drab here too with light rain forecast, followed by thunderstorms tonight. Eeek that'll make for a sleepless night.
MEHEFIN so sorry to read your news. No matter how big or small the pet they manage to worm their way into our hearts and it's truly heartbreaking when they leave us. Thinking of you at such a sad time x
I am up and about this morning in readiness for the plumber calling early doors to drop off the boiler and all the pipework, plus to collect my key, in readiness for the upheaval to start on Monday. I am so glad I have somewhere to escape to out of the way!
It's new tactics at the vets now. He says the injections for the conjunctivitis (virus problem) and the steroid injection for the allergy seem to be fighting each other. So last night he gave her the jab for the conjunctivitis (as that is causing the worst problem at the moment) and we have to go back in 12 days for the steroid injection. If that works out well then it will be visits twice a month in future. Blooming heck she's turning into a very expensive cat! But I love her to bits and want her better so que sera sera! I just wish it wasn't such an ordeal getting her into the carrier. Last night we ended up with her trapped in the bathroom with nowhere to hide so DS risked life and limb and grabbed her whilst I maneuvered the carrier towards them. Job done!
The 2 youngest DGD called yesterday to show me their newly done nails in readiness for their bridesmaid job next week. Eldest had to go to the dressmaker to pick up her newly shortened dress. As it's a lakeside wedding (Ullswater) we are hoping the weather is kinder for them all by midweek or it will have to be held in the hotel instead.
Have a good day folks if you can and ((HUGS)) for all in need of them. Take care one and all be safe x

Dull here and rain due later this morning and for the whole day. I hve a wash on the go it will have to dry indoors today.
I managed to book all the covid tests yesterday for going away and on return I also sorted the insurance and ordered currency I think we are almost there now apart from packing, I shall ask OH to get the cases from the loft and I shall air them a bit and then put things in as and when I come across them.
We need to pop to the shops today to get OH some new t-shirts and a couple of pairs of shorts, I think we will go to Asda as the clothes there fit him well.
I need to go and get something out of the freezer for dinner maybe pork chops OH can have chips with his and I will have some veg, lost another lb so thats 1/2 stone now
We need to have a good clean through this morning and the bathroom needs a good going over.
Mehefin I am not sure what has happened to your beloved horse but I am so sorry its so hard to lose a loved one human or not xxx
Have good days all xx11 -
Morning, hugs if you need one. Meflin - sorry to hear about your horse
We have a yellow weather warning in place for today.........lots of heavy rain!! Just what the Dr did not order.
Easy day for us today. We have the fence posts up now, just need to leave them for a few days and then cut the fence and fit it. Job done. Next job is to start cutting back in the back, once we have revealed what space we have I can get more plants in, give them time to acclimatise before winter. The hanging baskets are down, need to take cutting of the geraniums and fuchsia's for next year. They can over winter in the green house with fleece protection.
Supper tonight is all day breakfast. I made a crumble yesterday with HG apples and the start of the blackberries.8 -
Hi everyone,
Mehefin, I am so sorry to hear about the loss of your horse.
Ruby, I am feeling quite envious about the prospect of proper sunshine.
We had quite a day yesterday. Laura and Brian, his brother and Esben were here fr the night and were then going to a music festival half and hour away, we were transporting them and our campervan for L, B and E to sleep in. We thought we'd be back home all sorted by lunchtime. It actually took till 6pm - I won't bore you with the sordid details but it was a bit of a chapter of small errors.
Esben seems to be enjoying himself - he has a pair of colourful ear defenders which he seems to enjoy wearing and he loves the music.
Steve is about to leave to play golf and then has and appointment for a scan to screen for an abdominal aortic aneurism. I'm sure it's fine because they would have noticed it at is last CT scan I'm sure but we had a friend die of a huge heart attack two days ago so I suppose it's best to be sure.
I want to tidy my sewing room and perhaps do some sewing as well and I'll take Ziggy for a walk if I can summon the energy.10 -
Good morning all, very wet here, a wet walk into town to come, I have a parcel to collect.
Yesterday was DM's funeral, all went well, in fact it was great, everything that we wanted it to be and we are sure that it would have her approval. Now to get used to the new normal, she was out kingpin, our very own Queen Bee.
I was so proud, the bearers were her 4 grandsons and 2 of her great grandsons, it was really difficult involving a steep slope, steep steps and a long distance from church to grave, but they did her proud. The wake was lovely, much catching up with her friends and ex-neighbours, many in their 80's and 90's, as well as extended family including step families, who although they had not seen her much as they grew up, were insistent on coming to say goodbye.
Exhausted mentally and physically, and a bit tearful after typing this, I am looking for an easy day. Hugs and spoons to everyone. Have a good day. xThe best thing about the future is that it comes one day at a time. (Abraham Lincoln)10 -

Maddie - it's good to know that all went well for your DM, you should feel proud of the family she made. 💖 I'm three months in from the death of my DM and I'm yet to get used to it though I read the other day 'You don't get over grief, you just learn to have it as part of your life.'I got myself up and dressed and drove to Oban, a bit whimiscial of me but I took the notion. Just did a little shopping and then drove back. That's enough for me.10

Good Afternoon everyone
Maddie - pleased for you that everything went well for your dear mum
I popped into town this morning for a prescription but it wasn't ready - DD picked me up and left little one with me for the day. I'd only been home 5 minutes when I got a message to say the prescription was ready!
It can wait till Monday unless DD can get it for me later.
I took little one down to mam and dads for an hour - she did a lot of singing with great grandad - very loudly!
She's fast asleep now, so I'm enjoying the peace. It's been raining all day - if it eases later I'll take her out in her rain suit and wellies to splash in the puddles.
TA - you're lucky yo have the caravan to escape to
I'll have the cat wrangling to do next week. Biggest cat has his booster on Tuesday and then they're both to get in the boxes to go to the cattery on Wednesday afternoon. It's never an easy job!
Hope everyone has a good day
