Selling a broken Smart TV

Hi,

Does anyone know if there is a company that collects and buys old TV’s for parts? Have a Samsung smart TV which keeps turning itself off and on by itself, don’t really want to dump it. Have opened the back up and can assume some part needs to be replaced.

The days of repairing old TV`s have largely now gone, unless its something you want to do as a hobby yourself, most TV`s are not reparable, its cheaper to buy a new one than repair an old one.

Try selling on Ebay as spares or repair. List all its faults though, damaged screens are easily replaced so if yours is intact that itself could be a good selling point.
  • Hello:

This sounds like a power board issue, I say sounds because this might be the issue, it might not. You could get the model of the TV and then go to eBay and type that model in and PSU or power board, buy this, fit it and see if it fixes it.

    DISCLAIMER:

This is dangerous if you don't know what you are doing so don't do it unless you do.

It is a relatively easy board swap in which you unclip and reclip some wires onto the board. However, you could get electricuted if you touch the wrong part.

Is it suffering the dreaded Samsung boot loop?

There is a common fault with these televisions where the EEPROM on the mainboard breaks or becomes corrupted resulting in a boot loop,
Have a look at this advert on ebay and see if it's relevant.

Most modern TVs are very much repairable in that there are about 3 or 4 parts to them which if you can work out which one is fritzed you can just switch in a new part. Much better than throwing them away and creating a new bunch of e-waste.
