Council Tax debt question

Hi, I have two debts for council tax. One for my previous property, and one for my current property. On advice of Stepchange I have sent the previous council an email asking -
I would like to request districtonary relief of council tax arrears as per section 13a of the local government finance act 1992.
What I want to know is - should I send this same statement to my current council with regard to my current council tax debt? I am confused.....
Thank you kindly

The s13A(1)(c) discretionary relief has to be claimed from the council who are responsible for the property. If you want to try it for the current property then you'd need to send a request to them as well.
I no longer work in Council Tax Recovery but instead work as a specialist Council Tax paralegal assisting landlords and Council Tax payers with council tax disputes and valuation tribunals. My views are my own reading of the law and you should always check with the local authority in question.1
