Injury/pension

Hello, first post…. I’ve recently been injured at work and highly likely I won’t be returning to my job/role. What happens with my pension? I have no idea what I should be doing. It’s 14 years of pension and I’m no where near pension age. Any advice greatly appreciated. Thanks

What does your employer have to say about this?
With regard to your pension (assuming that you are not so disabled by the accident as not to be able to work in the future and therefore eligible to be considered for an immediate ill health pension). it could be deferred in an occupational scheme or you could have the option of a transfer out to another pension scheme?

Is it a Defined Contribution (DC) scheme where a pot of money grows and is invested. Or a Defined Benefit (DB) scheme where they promise to pay x amount when you retire, commonly called Final Salary Pension and used in the public sector.
But in both cases it sits there and keeps growing (significantly slower than if you are working) and you claim it when you retire. You have a few options which may be open to you especially if you intend to get a new job? Some pensions can be paid early on ill health grounds.0 -
I feel as if my employer is just wanting me to go and disappear without any questions and quietly, I’m not badly disabled but I am limited to what I can do going forward and that’s not including the mental state that this has brought. I just seem to be getting nowhere with anything. I must add this injury was not my fault. Thanks for your comments0

If you think that your employer is treating you unfairly (eg constructively dismissal) or if you think that the injury was the result of your employers negligence then do seek legal advice. You might try the employment forum here for some (mostly unqualified but hopefully knowledgeable) opinions.
However while they might entitle you to compensation, these thing won't directly affect your pension, which will usually work much the same way regardless of the reason you left the company.1 -
