Sold tickets for seats which don't exist

Not sure whether this is the right category for such a thing, but here goes.
Yesterday I purchased tickets to watch a football match directly from the football club (in League One). We turned up to the ground, only to find that the seats we had selected didn't exist. After talking to people around us, it appears that the seats were removed about a year ago (most likely for fire safety), and the online booking system hadn't been updated. Additionally, the people on the row infront had initially selected those seats for their season ticket, but got informed by the club that the seats didn't exist, so got move forward, showing that the football club knows of the issue, but did nothing regarding our tickets.
I shall be contacting them later this week to resolve the issue and hopefully get some freebies (always worth a shot!), so was wondering what (if any) legislation etc exists regarding sale of tickets for seats which don't exist etc, especially given that we were forced to stand for the entire match.

Can you stand at a football match? (Legally, I thought you were meant to sit for safety, but accept that might be wrong).Check the website and your tickets to see if they do say the tickets are standing only.Check for another game to see if the same 'seats' are on sale and at the same price as those with an actual seat. The more information you can present with your claim that you were charged an excess price for no seat the better your chances. It could be the 'seats' were cheaper because you'd have to stand but even then I'd expect there to be a disclosure that some 'seats are standing only. You won't get all your money back because you got to see the game.May you find your sister soon Helli.

If you paid for a seat and had to stand then I would be looking for a partial refund or indeed some freebies. It's not like people spend much time sitting at a footy match...
Your alternative was to leave and request a full refund which by law they would have to give you as they could not offer what you paid for.
Did you ask them for alternative seats or was it sold out?
Should've = Should HAVE (not 'of')
Would've = Would HAVE (not 'of')
No, I am not perfect, but yes I do judge people on their use of basic English language. If you didn't know the above, then learn it! (If English is your second language, then you are forgiven!)0
