You should NEVER provide a supplier with a kWh reading whether it comes from the meter or from the IHD. All gas meters record usage in volume - either cubic metres or cubic feet. It is this reading that the supplier uses for billing purposes or when switching suppliers. There is no Ofgem requirement for IHDs to show the meter index readings but many now do (for example, the Chameleon IHD 3 and 6).westofsouth said:Dolor said:
"Suppliers are banned by Ofgem from using fixed CVs. However, smart meters need to have a fixed CV if the IHD is to show anything that is meaningful to the consumer."
This is interesting, The IHD I used to supply an opening gas reading to Ebico seems to only display in kWh (See 'Firmware Conversion Factor' post). It displayed 6138kWh for gas. The fixed firmware CF for the Secure EG4 meter computes this as 551.2m³. However it transpires that this was not accepted by Ebico (or subsequently by the EOS).
Note I have been in contact with Secure Technical Services
Suppliers should reject any reading given to them in kWhs as they have no accurate way of calculating the actual meter index reading - nor are their billing systems set up to do this.
