Did You Blow Some (or All) of Your Lump Sum?

Options
I know we're all relatively prudent on this board, but I wondered how many people took some of their Tax Free Lump Sum and just blew it on something nice? A new car? A mega holiday? A new kitchen?
I'm thinking of a new car and then I tell myself to go and lie down. I wonder what others have done with theirs? Confess below please.

I 'blew' my lump sum from the Civil Service and LPSA on living for the 6 years before I reached my State Pension Age.  I now have far more cash than I know what to do with.  Happy Days!

Edit - I also bought myself a second hand car with 5 miles on the clock...

When my oh retired we blew £20k on 2 x disney holidays in the same year staying at the top Disney hotels. Don’t regret it as loved the holidays.
I am having car envy at moment for a white Range Rover. Unfortunately couldn’t justify it with the lump sum I will receive, might hire one to try and get over the urge!!!
If you can afford it, then why not treat yourself, as long as it is mindful spending.

Although it was not related to a lump sum , the first thing I did when I retired recently was to buy myself a new car ( 3 months old ex demo to be truthful ) I had had a company car for 36 years, so opting for a few years old smaller car at retirement,  felt like a backwards step . Plus like many people , not spent much due to Covid and no holidays , and you can't take it with you.....

Only had a tiny (automatic) lump sum from the LGPS which went on the garden.  I could have commuted more - but not at the public sector rate of 1:12 !

When Mr S and I retired from the RAF we both (time) commuted the maximum and paid off our mortgage with a nice nest egg left over.  That was a no brainer as our pensions were restored to their pre-commutation values (and fully index linked) once we hit 55.

I bought a new car, well a second hand one with 1900 on the clock. My previous car was 12 years old and starting to need more frequent repairs.

We used some of hubby's lump sum to replace two 14 year old cars with a new single car.
We've also used some of it to pay for a new biomass heating system, but we'll get 92% back via the RHI over the next 7 years.
Hubby has spent some on frivolous stuff, drones, telescopes, boy's toys, but he deserved it after working dead early shifts for so many years, and frankly keeps him out of my hair.

    .
  • Paying mortgage off (likely an offset mortgage).
    House extension/ workshop.
    Car.
    Possible camper.
    Likely care costs for parents.
