Dealing with debt

Hi everyone,

I am in a process of building emergency fund and waiting for defaults. I've got about 30k of debt.

I am really disappointed with myself but I finally managed to do something about it and I will stick to the plan to become debt free.

But there is something else that I'm worried about much more then the debt itself - and that is my relationship with my partner and her mental health (she is not aware of these debts).
Due to some personal circumstances her mental health is far from perfect and I know that if she finds out about my debts....it will be too much for her.

Is there anything I can possibly do to limit amount of letters I will be receiving until my debts been defaulted and I've got DMP in place?

I am not worried about phone calls but the amount of letters will definitely alarm her...

Would royal mail redirection service be an option?
Can letters from banks and other creditors be redirected to different address if I do not live there?

Thank you for any advice.

Best regards,

I think it's possible. Would she not find it equally odd that you receive no mail at all where you both live?

Personally I would not redirect mail to an address I was not living at. Where will you send it? It opens you up to the risk of identity fraud if the post is opened and details of your finances are discovered by someone else. Can you not just tell her that you have some debt and it is under control? I am not really a fan of partners being kept in the dark when something like DMPs or IVAs are involved as it affects her too as you presumably are financially linked. Suppose she makes a credit card application and it is declined because of your finances. Would that not cause her problems? I think it costs to redirect mail too and if you don’t answer letters promptly you may get phone calls instead.

Can i ask who's debts are they are they only yours (i know they are in your name) but has she also benefited from them directly or in directly. if so my opinion is that she should also make some contributions towards them. as its not fair on you to take this on all by yourself, you are also vulnerable to mental helath issues having this all on your own plate in not fair ans i not how a parentship should be.

(there is another thread on here when the husband is retired and spending willy nilly and the wife who is a teacher is paying nearly all the home bills and paying some of his debts its not fair on her this should be a team effort. but he is not really bothered and if things keep going the way they wont last sadly)
People are caught up in an egotistic artificial rat race to display a false image to society. We want the biggest house, fanciest car, and we don't mind paying the sky high mortgage to put up that show. We sacrifice our biggest assets our health and time, We feel happy when we see people look up to us and see how successful we are”
