How to buy back specific weeks NI to create full years.

I want to buy back some NI contributions to fill up gaps in recent years NI record for state pension entitlement. I understand you can pay by direct debit but how do I tell the powers that be which weeks/years these voluntary contributions are for?

It's possible to contact NI department and get a code number for specific dates then make payments through bank transfer.

I don't think you can make payments for past years via direct debit - only for the current year. As coastline says, if you contact the NI Enquiries part of HMRC and tel them which years you wish to pay up they will give you a reference code and banking details that you can use to make a faster payment.

Direct debits are set up and controlled by the receiving organization - NI/HMRC in this case - so you would have to contact them to do so and could tell them at the same time what periods you wished to pay. But as others say that's probably not the best way to do it, even assuming it's possible.
