Old Style Daily Saturday 14 August 2021

This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!
As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or SLOW internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.

Good morning folks.Yesterday the most I managed was to collect the three prints from the framers. The rest of the day I mostly relaxed, surfing, watching TV with a bit of snoozing in between. The weather was so bad for so long that it drove me into inertia. 😀 I ordered a few things from Ama*on which will all arrive today - more cardboard! The best part of the day was having long chats with my SIL in QLD and an old friend in Victoria. We blethered away for ages.Today I WILL sort through the table linen, pack them up into proper storage boxes and get it all into the garden barn out of my living room. I'll also repack my 'go bag', I was using a rather too large hold-all but it can all be condensed into a rucksack now.I hope that the awful weather isn't too bad everywhere. My thoughts are with our poorlies.Happy Saturday.13

Morning folks and thanks GERS. A few days of doing nothing are just what you need after all your toiling.
Yesterday would have been lovely if that blooming nippy wind hadn't still been with us. So an indoors door day here too and on top of the Friday Tidy a few more neglected jobs got done too. More may get done today but first it's the early bus trip down into town for odd bits I need from here and there. And I might find time to pop in the bargain freezer/grocery shop to see what's on offer, though the better bargains now seem a thing of the past.
The plumber finally rang me yesterday with a date for the boiler and gas pipe upheaval - Mon the 23rd. So plenty of time to get everything ready for him and to pack stuff for me and Sparkle's escape to the static out of the way! Some nice sitting out weather that week would be a bonus but anything will be preferable to staying here amongst all the mess!
Have a good day folks if you can and ((HUGS)) as always for our poorlies, poorly loved ones and MIA. Take care one and all and be safe xx"If you dream alone it will remain just a dream. But if we all dream together it will become reality"12 -
Morning All
Thanks for the start Gers, don't feel guilty about doing nothing, you deserve it!
Good you have a date for the new boiler TA, going to your caravan will be a welcome escape.
Hope you get your work sorted Ruby.
Work yesterday was quite good, lovely to see everyone. We still have a lot of restrictions in place but we're slowly returning to normal. We have a new Janitor who seems to be a hard worker, thank goodness as the last one was extremely lazy and could be quite awkward, all he wanted to do was play golf!
The weather yesterday was dire, it went from rain to heavy rain and back to rain again. It's looking a bit brighter this morning so the allotment visit shouldn't be too bad. It was quite chilly yesterday too, I was half a degree off lighting the fire last night.
Hope the poorlies are feeling better today, enjoy Saturday if you can. Take care. XX11 -
Morning everyone
Hugs to those that want/need them, those who are poorly and those who are looking after a poorly person x
Happy birthday to those with a birthday x
Sunny start to the day, dry underfoot and no rain forecast.
DH watching catchup tv, DS1 still in his pit, I'm showered, dressed and enjoying my first cuppa and a brekkie bar whilst on here. DS2 settled and happy.
Dinner last night was chicken and ham kievs, chips and beans for the menfolk. I had fishcakes and salad. Tonight I'm not sure what we'll be eating.
I got done most of what I wanted to yesterday. Will be having a chilled weekend.
Keep safe and well x

Good morning, and thanks for starting Gers. Glad you had a quiet day, you deserve it.Pleased to hear you've got a date for your new boiler installation TA, and you're doing the right thing by getting out of the house while it's being done. When we had a complete renewal of the whole heating system a few years ago, I started off by trying to keep the place tidy, but we ended up by camping in one room, with the rest of the house in chaos. It was in the November as well, for various reasons the installation had been delayed from the September start we'd aimed for.Ruby, hope you get your job sorted. It's a nice day here at the moment, hope it continues, I have the usual jobs to do.Hope evryone has a good day, take care folks.13

Morning, hugs if you need one.
Looks like being another warmish day, we did have a stiff breeze yesterday.
The afternoon saw us in the garden with the gardener, we have put up the wooden arch, holes dug for the legs, made sure it was level and propped it up with wood to keep it in place whilst the postcrete set. Its still up this morning so it should be ok to take the wood down now. We just have to do the fence. The gardener propped a bit of the fence against the side of the arch, so we could see how it would look. You can see through the fence to the garden beyond but it breaks up the view and you can no longer see the difference in the turf. M is coming to cut the grass this morning.
I am on curtain duty again, my neighbour was taken to hospital on Thursday, I think she has a chest infection, we are waiting to see what the Drs say, she has had quite a few tests.
Chicken casserole for supper tonight, I have a load of climbing beans to use up, they are going mad just now. Finished the jelly last night, I have some apples to peel and cook, so might do an apple and rhubarb crumble, it will last us 3 nights.6 -
Good morning everyone.
Dry and bright here so far and I hope it stays that way as we have a family bbq happening here at lunchtime. It was going to be with friends at their house but they have been isolating so now it's reduced numbers and a change of venue. I have some lamb marinating in mint sauce ready to be threaded on skewers and it's mainly salad to make now and the pudding to finish off.
DS has now moved to a house share in London so closer for driving up - he might even bring us some more boxes to store in the garage!
Other than that I'm currently watching the rugby on tv so will make a move after that.
Happy Saturday everyone.10 -
Morning everyone
I really enjoyed my quiet day yesterday. Browsed on Amazon for quite a while and chose a nice rug for my living room - then of course I 'needed' a couple of new cushions to match.
Pottered about and did a few jobs and then spent most of the afternoon reading - it was lovely!
Sadly not outside in the sunshine as it was very windy, but in the sunshine in my bedroom.
Windy again this morning so I've got my bedding in the washing machine - it won't take long to dry.
I'm planning to get the grass cut today and have a couple of other jobs to do too. Little one is staying tonight as DD is going to an outdoor cinema at Bamburgh Castle - a lovely backdrop as long as the rain stays away.
Ta - good that you can just leave the workmen to it and escape the mess.
Gers - take time for yourself - you deserve it
Hope everyone has a good day

Hi everyone,We had an early football match with DGS, still doing friendlies as the season hasn't started yet, well they call them friendly but some of the boys can be quite rough. I think our side are too well mannered! DGS got clattered and had to come off for a bit, and a team mate got hauled round the neck and flung down, they're only 7 for heavens sake. His mum protested loudly and the other boy was told to calm down! DS was taking the DGC back home and treating them to a sausage butty from the cafe across the road, we came home as I need to get some bits.TA thanks for asking about the funeral, as far as these things can go it went very well. Too many to go inside so lots stood outside during the service, and lovely photos on a big screen, and her friends reading happy memories out, but so sad as well .I think we may have a take away tonight, I was trying to eke out my shopping until Monday but with the descent of DS and children last night ,my fridge has taken a battering
Yesterday I made a lot of flatbreads to have with chicken for tea. The recipe says they freeze well & I have enough left for another meal.

RosyRed - I remember the times of watching school boys football matches - so competitive - and that was just the parents!
