Well, that's a fairly pointless poll.

I've never owned a dog, but I was under the impression that a 30kg labrador eats significantly more than a 4kg cat. I'd love to know what the guy spending £5k+ per year on fish has got - unless that's mostly set up costs, he must have something close to the sea life centre...

I know 2 friends who spend a lot on their dogs including trips to the groomers. 3 of our cats are short haired plus never taking them out for walks means we are less bothered about the 4th looking 'perfect' (although we do brush and maintain her coat).

As dogs are with owners more and are often bigger I can see its easy to buy them things.

Besides the look of disgust I got from our eldest cat last time I played Dress up with her...

I have had dogs and cats at the same time and I'd say I spent more on the dogs. Food and vet bills are higher, flea treatments, wormers etc all cost more. I found that dogs will play with shop bought toys where as my cats prefered screwed up sweet papers, pen tops and cardboard boxes. They didn't like many cat treats either.

Not yet seen a cat that can do the same level of damage as a power chewer dog either.

Our cats helped strip the wallpaper when we were decorating and left it alone when we finished. My brother's dog chewed the plasterwork so my dad had to replaster when they sold.
