For a variety of reasons (and we are working from home) I would be shocked if anyone was conducting interviews at a private residential address - the legal ramifications of doing so for both the business and the householder are scary.
I agree.  It makes the potential employer, HR and the recruiting manager all look unprofessional and amateur.  (And that's only looking at the employment side of it and ignoring questions of personal safety etc.   :open_mouth:  !!!

Was the interview arranged with you by the company itself (using genuine email address for example) or via a reputable agency which knows the client?

It was arranged by the company through a job site. The site disguises their (and mine) email address and I can't reply directly to that address.

Are you sure the house is a home? Some smaller offices are converted houses. Take a look on google street view to see if it looks housey or officey.

Or there may be an office in a cabin in the garden.

Can't do street view, but from above it looks like a house, surrounded by lots of other houses. As I said, it's in the middle of a housing estate. They may be using rooms as offices, but I can't tell without going there and seeing.

I would be very suspicious in this situation.  If you must go to their home do take someone with you.  And find a suitable way to do so if possible.

Frankly I've never liked the idea of even applying to a company without knowing who they are.  Might be the ones I already work for or who I've quit because they were unpleasant or whatever.  of course some times you can tell from the ads which companies are which as they tend to have the same wording in all.

I've got someone to go with me if I do go.

Me neither. I try to find out as many details as possible, but some ads give nothing which is frustrating. This ad gave one of the business locations which is what I looked up.

Had a reply. The interview is definitely at a house and it sounds like the job will be working from there too.
