  • @Sistergold @Suffolk_lass argh... I was hoping my cool head would prevail, but we are back to the dating  analogy  on home buying inevitably - you can really not be bothered but then like lightning 'coup de fondre' suddenly hits..  and all your wits dribble out of your head ...
I have alwayy waited for the madness of love to hit me rather than  casual dating ... but I am really hoping it won't have to be as bad to buy my  flat!

Had a good weekend so far, seen some more live music and friends.

Helped my mum to put some things on gumtree this week but then someone tried to scam her with the parcel2go option on Gumtree there where you pay and they send pick up.. The scammer in saying she was buying and arranging the pick up asked for mums card and csv number even though mum  is  the seller. Mum did give her these details  but not before she first  emptying the bank  account  just in case luckily.  The scam person then text to ask how much money she had in there .. I guess they must have tried to use the card but there is nothing in there and I assume no OD. I told mum to call bank immediately.
    So people beware!!

    DON'T BUY STUFF (from Frugalwoods)
No seriously, just don’t buy things. 99% of our success with our savings rate is attributed to the fact that we don’t buy things... You can and should take advantage of discounts.... But at the end of the day, the only way to truly save money is to not buy stuff.    Money doesn’t walk out of your wallet on its own accord.

  • Sept 2021 round up for me to look back on

    Sept 30th 2021 savings for house deposit £70, 183.33

Sept savings  £1436.41   as was  not paid my due invoices.  Goal  £2818 pm

Part my savings are in S&S ISA (26%) so lost £271.64 in mkts (up over 2.5k in last 18 months so I am ok taking the risk)

    SIPP end Sept £26,514.26   - down £736.10 – mkts dropping – invested  only £100 + the £25 from HMRC

Goals for the month: SEPT  REVIEW

    Sept  NSD 0/10         - 9/10 – well done me!

Sept  Groceries Challenge  - £147.86 of £170 September - well done though I was away

Get programme finished and out to sell – I let flat hunting  get in the way of this..

Start extra income on my normal main career - £205 in Sept + £84

Get to 4 days a week on high day rate for career 2 - NOPE

1 dedicated day a week on my programme - NOPE

    Gym 5 or 6 times a week, drop 1 kg – NOPE – only 3 x, unsure on weight

Sell on ebay and locally  £100 – YES, over £200 on ebay and thru local whats app gp

Enjoy the wedding but dont overspend – YES – I had an amazing time, though cabs were more expensive back/forth than I had envisioned

Surveys but not to let them distract me from programme – Hugely dialled down on this but not sure what replaced it apart from reading and netflx

    Free Money £130  target -  £290.50 /£130 – tx ebay

MB income to rise back to normal levels now football is back   - not do much, yet to add up for Sept

    TT on Fridays YES

Keep flat hunting and find more flats I love and can afford – 1ST AND 2ND rejected offers on flat but saw a lot inc 3 I  liked

Programme goals  beg September – really underperformed

Part a - I need to finish the 2nd edit, plan is today/max tomorrow finish - DONE
Part b - just needs checking of where I need to add links and pics and possible last time spell check – STARTED THEN STOPPED
Part a - will then need a final spell check
Part c - creating and checking the extras that are coming with it
part D - I will do once a and b are done - recording the audio to go with it all
Part E is getting all the set up /webpages/adds up and on going
    Part  F - marketing it

    Review: Sept

Entertainment  £110 I blew through this (despite having budgeted for my 3 days away but post lockdown catchups are not cheap and I don’t begrudge it) and also Sept  travel was also more, so will up my budget for Oct on both.

I did not move my programme forward as flat hunting

I put in 2 offers on that fixer upper, both rejected and saw 2 others I liked

I seemed to be rushing around and not getting all I wanted done inc work. 2 trips to see family and wedding also.

I only saved additionally  £1426.41 but that was good on not much paid income. £2818pm goal was steep and worse when not fully paid.

I think you've got waaay too many goals going on at the moment! You set getting the programme finished as a goal for last month, and by your own admission underperformed. How about these as an alternative?

Feel free to ignore the nag, but once it's done it's done!!! Then you can think about upping your income through extra hours/selling/MB etc, plus gym and weight loss once you've got a bit more headspace
    Mortgage start: £65,495 (March 2016)

A good roundup for September and October.
How about building in some rewards for October as well?
You've a lot on and should have some treats built in so you don't feel guilty for spending your fun money.
If it's not adding up, compound it!

Hey Thanks for the wisdom, you are right I have too many goals. It has also made me think and also acknowledge that for me, the gym is a treat rather than an austerity, it is portioning out the time to go regularly as it so helps with my mental health as well. So I am giving myself the treat of the gym and thus any weight loss from that is just an added extra.

I am definitely not looking at flats til i get this programme done and have arranged a 2 hour window each morning to work on it. hence the

Yes no guilt .. very important.
I will figure some fun things, I am off out dancing next week and will aim to go to one live music gig at least a week.
Once the programme is done I will treat myself to ...  (I need to think and will report back) as needs to be a special thing.

Have to agree with you all about the right house for you.  As long as I have one place in the house where the sun floods in and I can sit and soak up the sun and recharge I'm happy.  DH is just happy with a drive and somewhere to store his sports stuff.  Our old house didn't really have want we wanted, and we kept putting more and more money into it, but eventually realised we were never going to be happy there.

@LadyWithAPlan, oh dear mum giving her bank details while she is the seller, good that she made sure there was no money the account!

@SandyShores, yes the sun flooding in is what one needs to get the “ahhh” moment in the house. So much joy the sun brings.

Just catching up - sorry that the estate agents are hassling you.  We had one like that when we were looking to buy but he actually came through with a property that wasn't even officially on the market yet and well it's 5 years later and I'm sitting in that house and very happy about it. So sometimes you have to play their game a little to build a bit of a relationship but you don't have to like them, I made that very clear with this guy!  I'm a bit like you and want to do everything all at once but have learnt that I need to just focus on the Frog (the one thing I keep putting off) and then I can concentrate on the more fun things.  Good luck with getting the programme finished!
