O/S Daily Wednesday 11 August 2021
This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!
As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or SLOW internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning
Morning everyone
Hugs to those that want/need them, those who are poorly and those who are looking after a poorly person x
Happy birthday to those with a birthday x
Now light, dry underfoot and cloudy start but no rain forecast, yesterday although was a chilly start got out to be a very warm sunny day. I have a wash load to peg out to line dry this morning.
DH and DS1 getting ready for work, I'm showered, dressed and enjoying my first cuppa and my porridge, DS2 settled and happy.
Dinner last night was chicken covered in seasoning cooked in a roasting bag served with veg rice and pasta in a sauce, some pasta in sauce and a chicken breast left in the fridge. Dinner tonight will be LO's from roast.
Yesterday work was manic as suspected, today I'm working at the other office so will see how it goes, although there was practically no staff due to sickness and holidays. Half day for me though.
Keep safe and well x

Good morning, thanks for starting NMLC.It's a bit grey here, hope it brightens up a bit.Gers, you are right about stockpiling creating its own stress, I used to pore over the contents of my cupboard. almost frightened to use stuff in case I couldn't get replacements.TA, I like Boundary Mills, there's a one about 20 mins drive away, I wish I went more often, haven't been there for a few years.Csarina hope the funeral went as well as these occasions do.Poppy, you must have got a shock when the cabinet door fell on the cistern, it must have made a terrible noise.Yesterday was an ok day, we went to the quiz last night, and had a good night, but I think it will fold unless we get some new "members", sadly. Not all of the old teams have come back, and our team is shrinking. The dgc's are coming today, they've been away for 3 weeks in their caravan. It will be great to see them.Hope everyone has a good Wednesday, thoughts to the poorly people.Take care folks12

Morning folks and thanks NMLC. Your work situation sounds a nightmare, it never seems to improve. We are forecast a nice morning but it's set to cloud over come lunchtime.
I had another enjoyable coffee and lunch meet up with my df yesterday but, despite it being a beautiful day, the beer garden was closed due to some work going on out there so we had to stay inside which was a pity.
Today it's eldest DGDs 17th birthday and she has a busy day ahead! DD, the 3 girls and I are going for early lunch at the carvery and then she is meeting a few friends later for an early-bird meal at the Italian restaurant in town. I hope she leaves enough room after the carvery! Then it's back to DD's for an evening in the hot tub for them all. It's been an expensive week with both the eldest and youngest DGDs having a birthday within 5 days of each other! Then in a couple of months it will be middle ones birthday.
Have a good day folks if you can and ((HUGS)) for our poorlies, poorly loved ones and the MIA. Take care one and all and stay safe x

Morning folks. It's a dull start here, perhaps the sun will burn through later.Yesterday I was moderately productive. I went into town for a scrubbing brush and found carbolic soap too, didn't realise it was called Red Buoy and was red. I was expecting it to be green - what was the green soap? I can 'see' big blocks of it, like butter. Maybe I'm imagining it. 😂
I scrubbed the messy shelf in the garden barn, took ages to get off the crusted puréed tomatoes, and then disinfected it. Once it was dry I moved boxes and bags from the car into that space and rearranged other shelves too. I seemed to work on this for most of the day with plenty of rest times too. 😀
There's still stuff in the car, mostly a lot of household linens which my maternal grandmother embroidered but haven't been used for a very long time. I'm going to put it all in vacuum storage bags and then plastic boxes to keep in the barn for now until I decide what to do with them.Today I'm going back into town to collect three prints I'd left for framing. Two are lovely drawings by a late friend and one is a beautiful photograph of my DM. It's one she took in my back garden in the summer of 2015, I'd given her a selfie stick which she was scared of but was experimenting with. 😂 In most of the series she's making very funny faces, but this particular one is lovely.I hope that everyone is doing at least OK. Still thinking about our poorlies and the missing.Taff - have a great holiday. Happy Wednesday to all.11 -
Plumber did a great job yesterday, new toilet now in situ. Hope to go down to the village coffee morning later. Although it is only at the bottom of my road I will have to drive because of my mobility issues. It will be nice to have a chat with people and a change of scene. Even better should come back to a clean house as the cleaner is due this morning.
TA enjoy the birthday celebrations.11 -
Morning All
It's damp this morning, was quite nice swimming in the rain although the midges were out in force. There were lots of people swimming today, quite the party atmosphere!
I went into school yesterday and got quite a lot done, felt like it was worth the trip. Lunch out was good too, I had a huge ceaser salad that I thoroughly enjoyed. Good chat too with an old friend, nice to catch up.
Swimming with little one this morning but nothing else planned. Should go to the allotment to pick anything that's ready - hopefully no courgettes!
So glad you have a photo of your DM that makes you smile Gers. Was the soap you were thinking of Fairy?
Glad you have your toilet fixed Poppy.
Happy Birthday to your DGD TA, enjoy your meal.
Have a happy Wednesday, take care.XX11 -
Morning all; bright and sunny here so far.
When DH gets up I'll strip the bed so hopefully the sheets can dry on the line. We're meeting friends for coffee this morning so he needs to get a move on and have some breakfast or it will all become the same meal.
Later on I have the dreaded ironing to do and then just a bit of pottering. A quiet day here hopefully.
Happy Wednesday everyone.9 -
Good morning everyone
It is a dry day but a bit dull. I think it will brighten up later though. There is much excitement in the dumpling house today as my best friend rang me yesterday to say she was coming to see me. It has been 2 years since we last met up as she is really poorly with M.E. and Fibro and is usually bed bound. I cannot wait to see her and her husband as we can talk for England.
I also won on the Euromillions but as my prize was £4.30 I am not hitting the shops anytime soon.
My diet is going well and tonight I am going to make a fish pie. It has a mashed potato top but I will just eat the filling as per usual. I will do a big pile of green veg too so I will definitely not be feeling deprived.
Unfortunately, my leg sprung a leak last night but nurse Steve managed to get it under control with his 'puncture repair kit' which is what he calls my dressings. I am fine again this morning though a bit cautious. my little westie likes to jump up so I have to be careful not to let his nails catch on me.
Right, I am off to chivvy everyone to get the living room in tip top shape and also the bathroom as I noticed it was not looking at it's best yesterday.
Hope you all have a lovely day whatever you are up to, take care xx

I've had two notifications of deliveries so I'll stay put today.TA - happy birthday celebrations for your lovely DGDs. 🎂Poppy - good to hear that your cistern has been fixed, can't be without a functioning toilet.7 -
Morning, hugs if you need them.
Plenty of hugs were needed yesterday, we set off just before 10am. Thanks to a snarl up in Towcester we only just made it in time, we were at a roundabout when the funeral cortege went past, so we followed it.
It was an unusual service, different to what 'we oldies' expected. Thankfully it was a lovely sunny day. We were invited for the 'wake' we call it a bun and coffee struggle up here.. We were made very welcome by Louise's parents. DB also got a long chat with SS. for which I was grateful. He has promised to keep in touch and will bring our little grand daughter up to see us. He is remaining in Milton Keynes, hoping to get the house transferred to him.
Our journey back was much easier, less traffic but the M1 was very busy.` We were both shattered, a quiet evening, no supper just a snack and a cup of tea.
This morning I get to celebrate my put back birthday, we are meeting DD2 for lunch. So supper will again be a snack.5 -
Morning all,dog walked and it's hopefully brightening up! it turned out nice yesterday afternoon. I was a bit bothered because DH & DS had to get a load of concrete in for the extension foundations they're working on, and here we had about 3 heavy downpours, it's about 2 miles away and turns out it didn't rain at all there , so they were done for lunchtime.DH and I went up to the retail park to get him some new jeans & some for work too.The work ones were 2 for £12 (Mr A) and the 'best' ones £40 from nextCame home, did an early tea and then went to iron & sort out our clothes for cousins DD funeral tomorrow, they don't want us to wear black, so I've picked out 2 outfits depending on the weather. I need to dye my hair in a bit too, it's really faded with the sun in the hot spell.DGC coming later, may have to pick DGD up, apart from that nothing much happening, but I need to post my application for a bus pass in anticipation(!) of my birthday towards the end of the month.Breaded chicken for the men tonight, I might have filled pasta that I picked up yesterday.Poppy glad you got your toilet fixed, must have given you a fright.TA enjoy DGD birthday celebrationsHope you all have a decent day x
