Child maintenance after 18?

Hi, I'm just trying to work out when child maintenance will stop for my son. He turns 18 in a couple of weeks and should be starting university after the holidays but intends living at home still with his mum. At the moment I pay her the maintenance directly. Could someone please advise if maintenance is paid while he goes to university and if it does stop is it as soon as he turns 18, until he starts university or something different? Thanks.

It stops when child benefit stops, which will be August 31st because your son will be going to UNI. When a student attends Uni they usually have a student loan, regardless of whether they are at home or living away. Although how much he would be able to claim will depend on circumstances.

It's normal for Uni students to start in October. Two of my children attended Uni and they never started first term until then. It makes no difference to child benefit because this will end on 31st August, which means maintenance doesn't continue past this date. (unless of course you choose to help with uni costs)
