Accidently leaked confidential information

  • She was not offered the position after I declined it and she accessed the scores and found out that the company had offered it to someone who only scored 35% and she had in fact scored higher.  She told my boss that she believed the company had fiddled the scores to give the job to someone they wanted to.
Sounds like sour grapes on missing out. Her conduct itself speaks a thousand words as to why she wasn't suitable.

Plus it doesn't exactly demonstrate an outstanding intellect!  Accessing confidential information that you shouldn't have - and then telling someone else in confidence that you've done it!  And the person you chose to tell - in confidence - then tells the OP!

What a shower!  And that includes the OP...

I have to agree with the people who are saying that scores are only a part of the interview process and that other factors will have been taken into account before the job was offered to the person who scored 35 on a test. If indeed that WAS their score.

There's been a lot of gossip, conjecture and assumption going on - as you say here, "she told my boss that she believed the company had fiddled the scores to give the job to someone they wanted to". She believed. She didn't know.

The HR person should not have said anything and nor should your boss. So many people have been blabbing about so much I just don't see how it can all be traced back to you. Don't fess up but keep your head down and try not to say anything else going forward.

Because in the end, it doesn't really matter. The job has been given to the person who was offered it when you turned it down and nobody has suffered as a result of all the blabbing. Your boss's friend used her position in HR to access information which should have remained confidential - hopefully she'll have learned her lesson now, too.
