Old Style Daily Sunday 01 August 2021

This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!
As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or SLOW internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.

Morning folks.Despite a cloudy start yesterday the afternoon sun came out blazing though a very nippy wind wasn't pleasant. Late on I did a whites wash and it dried well in the sun and wind.A neighbour told me of new potatoes for sale from another local so I took myself up towards the glen to get some. There was a lovely wee A-frame shed (very low level) with 2kg of potatoes in brown paper bags and an honesty box for the money. When I came back I found that the gardener had left me some of her homemade red currant and custard tarts. 🤣 Nice thought.I pottered a bit in the back garden for a while and then decided to tackle some more of the wilderness in the front bit. That meant spraying it, so out came the pump sprayer. I couldn't reach all of the weeds so it'll need doing in layers.I have no plans for today, life is feeling rather weird just now. I have to get used to this quiet and relatively stress-free way, after next Friday that is! One more session of clearing out Ursula's flat and it should be done.Taff - I have plenty of sparrows on my feeders, along with siskins and various tits. They tend to leave the sunflowers seeds in preference to the hearts but I'm hardening my own heart and not refilling until the seeds are gone. There is blue sky behind the fluffy clouds this morning. Think I'll go to the canal sea lock later to watch the yachts come and go.My thoughts are with Maddie and her family. And with our missing and poorlies.Happy Sunday and happy August. 😱 August!!11

Good morning everyone
Pinch punch, 1st of the month and no returns! Seriously can't believe it is already August. Feels a lot more Autumnal today. The wind has died down but there are loads of leaves all over our garden. I don't know if we are having any more heat waves this month, most of me hopes not but it would be nice for the kids who are off school to have some more lovely sunny weather.
Gers, thank you for starting us off this morning. Your gardener sounds a right treasure xx
Maddie, sorry to hear your news about your mum, sending you loads of hugs xx
No plans for today except to make some meatballs for dinner. I have started knitting a monkey for my Lilly's partners nephew so will get on with that in a little while. I have been wanting to whittle down all my card making stuff as it is taking over the dining room and to be honest I am feeling very overwhelmed by it all. I don't know how best to go about it though. I have literally hundreds of dies, stacks of card and papers and loads of other bits and pieces. If I sell everything individually it will take years. Also, I am not keen on Ebay so that narrows things down considerably. It's all taking too much room up in my head at the moment.
This month is definitely going to be a declutter month. I am not a hoarder by any means but there is stuff everywhere and I want to see surfaces againI suppose it's like eating an elephant, just do it one bite at a time
.
Hope you all have a great day whatever you are up to, take care xx11 -
Good morning, and thanks for starting Gers. It's grey and cool here, as Dunpling says, rather autumnal - yesterday was a miserable day weatherwise as well.We had a nice day though, we went to Be*mish Museum with Ds and family, we haven't been there for quite a while, really enjoyed our day.Not much planned for today. I need a bit of shopping, that's about it.Thinking of Maddie, and Csarina, and others who are ill or struggling with life.Take care folks11

Morning folks and thanks GERS for starting us off and Happy Yorkshire Day all! Evidence of a bit of rain overnight but another dry day is forecast. But where's the sun hiding!!
More medals overnight, they are coming thick and fast! in these Games. And chance of a few more today.
No plans for the day but I have had a chicken breast joint defrosting as I this miserable weather is making me long for a roast dinner. I have a hankering for cauliflower cheese too so that will accompany the rest of the veg and I shall do enough of everything to warm up tomorrow.
Have a good day folks if you can and ((HUGS)) for our poorlies, poorly loved ones and MIA. Thinking of MADDIE and her family. Take care one and all and be safe x"If you dream alone it will remain just a dream. But if we all dream together it will become reality"10 -
Morning All
Lovely out this morning, high cloud and a gentle breeze, will put the washing on once I've had a shower.
Great visit to see the DGC yesterday, they were in great form. It makes the long drive there and back worth it. There were a couple of showers but it cleared on the way home for some spectacular views. Came home to find a hedgehog on the drive. Went to get gloves and a towel to move it to the back garden but it had gone, seems they can move surprisingly quickly!
Thinking of you Maddie.
Hope the poorlies are feeling better.
Have a happy Sunday, take care. XX8 -
Morning everyone
Maddie - so sorry to read about your mum x
Had little one all day yesterday - we had a lovely play and didn't get dressed till after 11. We had dressing up clothes out and her babies and had a lovely picnic of wooden food! when we were finally dressed we walked to the little park nearby.
After lunch we made a nest as she calls it on my bed and read all her library books. Then she slept for 2 hours and I tidied up and read my book. DD picked us up and we went to a local pub/restaurant for tea - it was really nice.
Going down to sit with dad this morning while mam goes to church then just planning on having a peaceful afternoon with my paper and my book.
I've just been putting my washing out - it feels quite chilly here - I hope we're going to get some more good weather.
Gers it's bound to be a strange time for you after you have been so busy - try to relax and enjoy your garden.
Well I'd better get moving. Take care everyone10 -
Hi everyone,
Our feline lodger is leaving today at some point. Chris and Crystal will be coming home and will probably just drop off their stuff and then come to pick her up. Crystal hates being without her baby. I hope they've had a good time, they take the opportunity to have a holiday from their mobile phones while they're camping.
Laura on the other hand sent some lovely photos and videos on the beach in Wales yesterday. It looked lovely and sunny and the wee man was obviously enjoying the sand. He wasn't so sure of the sea when Brian dipped his feet in it a few times. He kept saying "OK" when Brian pulled him up as if to say, that's enough daddy.
They are back tomorrow and then Esben has an appointment this week to be tested for allergies after a wait of over a year. Hopefully he will have outgrown his reaction to salmon and nothing else will show up. It would be nice to be able to give him fish for a change. Apparently he tried veggie and chicken gyoza this week and loved it.
It's still looking quite grey here after yesterday's heavy rain, it doesn't feel cold though. Not a lot going on here as usual so i will wish you all a good day (with special thoughts for Maddy) and go.

Morning all
Thanks for the thread Gers and hugs to all those in need.
Dry here at the moment I'm not sure if we are moving or not. I'm torn between wanting to stay because I'm worn out and wanting to move because the bank is very steep and I'm scared of falling.
Have a good day everyone.
Hugs HesterChin up, Titus out.7 -
Morning, hugs of you need one.
Pinch an' a punch.......first of August, time is going by so fast.
We had rain overnight, DB has yet to go out and check his rain gauge, but from the kitchen door it looks to be almost a quarter full.
No plans, its rather grey, I do need to do some dead heading at some point and also take some cuttings from the fuchsia's in the pots, will be able to start them on the window cill then they can go in the greenhouse. Will need to protect them in the winter from the frost.
I did manage to shift the boxes for my machine, they are now under our bed temporarily, the plasterer is due tomorrow morning, also managed to shift the bed so he can get to the back wall to repair where the old storage heater was fitted.
Supper is roast beef, roast spuds and butternut squash, cauli and beans. Not done a dessert.6 -
Good morning,
Damp start here and feels chilly, but sun coming out now. Didn't do anything much at all yesterday, just felt exhausted, so gave in to it and chilled with a book and dozens of cups of tea, easy teas of omelette and salad for me and mackerel and salad for OH who sorted it all except for the omelette bless him, he also bought me a lovey big bunch of Sunflowers back from the Saturday paper run.
Funeral is provisionally booked for 20th, sad that it is eldest DBs birthday, but everything in terms of undertaker, church, vicar etc seemed to align, all meet up this Friday with undertaker to get everything organised.
Sending hugs to Csarina, it is so hard when we lose a younger person, not the natural order of things.
Gers I am sure it will take you a while to re-adjust after such major life change, but hopefully your wonderful location, lovely neighbours and the challenge of re-claiming your garden will ease you back in.
Dumpling it is so easy for craft stuff to get out of hand isn't it? Most of my stuff is jammed in a section of under eaves storage that is mine and OH never needs to go in, so doesn't impinge on him or our joint space which helps.
Scarlett Beamish is on my want to visit list, but we have missed 2 years of being able to holiday north of us because of shielding and Covid19.
TA roast chicken hopefully on the menu here too, thanks for reminder about cauli cheese, I have 1 to use and thought of roasting it with a little curry spice, but may make 2 meals of it and try both.
camelot was it daylight when you got home? if hedgies are about in the day they say it is because they are hungry or poorly, but if you have been having rain there should be food available for it. We have them here, next door have caught them on film and we have a large pile of brushwood, logs and leaves tucked away in a corner for them, collie dog often indicates that they are around when she goes out at night.
Take care all.
