Hi, I'm looking for some help!
I am trying to get hold of Optima Legal Services Ltd to get a settlement figure on an old debt that I want to settle, but apparently they don't deal with recoveries anymore. There is a message on the number that I have for them to contact the original creditor, which is MBNA, who I've spoken to but they say that because they sold the debt on that it's nothing to do with them. I've also spoken to somebody at Optima Legal in their remortgage department who say they no loger deal with litigation and have given me an email address but I'm getting no respose from it.
Does anybody know who has taken over debt collection from them?
Thank you in advance

No, and there is no way of finding out unless the company concerned writes to you.
You say it’s an old debt, how old ?Is it still on your credit file ?
After 6 years it will be gone, and potentially be statute barred also, so personally I wouldn’t bother with it.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the Debt free wannabe, Credit file and ratings, and Bankruptcy and living with it boards. Ok, what I suggest you do is post on the “charging order the myth” which is a sticky post in this forum.
The land registry rep regularly comments on it, and may be able to help you.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the Debt free wannabe, Credit file and ratings, and Bankruptcy and living with it boards. With a 2:1 transfer which I think this is unfortunately overreaching won't apply. The land registry have a process if no response obtained from the party with the benefit of the restriction - it involves putting the money in an escrow account in case it's claimed. You may need to find a specialist solicitor to deal with this - most conveyancers don't know about it. In 25 years I've only come across it a couple of times1

Thanks for your replies.
After many phone calls, I finally managed to contact somebody willing to help at Optima Legal (remortgaging). They gave me the details of the solicitors who now deal with the recovery of that account (old MBNA). I'll leave them below in case it helps anybody else in the future. The ex has been making token payments towards it so it needs to be cleared in full apparently.Mortimer Clarke Solicitors, 16-22 Grafton Road, Worthing, West Sussex, BN11 1QP
