Xbox series X still high price!

Hey all, still looking to find a Xbox series X for a good price...shocked they haven't got more in stock yet they are meant to be £450

this site is selling them for £653 which is £200 more but people look to be buying it at this price!

Still Out of stock on currys same with tesco

Does anyone know when these will be available! Surely it can't be corona related at this point?

There is a global pandemic, combined with a global semiconductor shortage, that is limiting the production of consoles, graphics cards, cars etc. which rely on those components.

Amazon, Argos. Game and other retailers regularly have small amounts of stock availability, but you have to be quick. Otherwise you are relying on scalpers who are the ones charging inflated prices. The stock situation is unlikely to change so that they are freely available this year, there probably will not be any retailers selling them below £450 until at least 2023 at the earliest.

    2023 earliest! wow

Ah I never heard of the semiconductor shortage. That makes a little more sense than just the pandemic, as everything is close to being back to normal now (for the most part)

    thanks for the explanation @MattMattMattUK

The average for previous generations was that the first price drop would occur around two years, for the PS4 it was reduced after 23 months and for the XBox One there was a sort of price cut when they dropped Kinect, but the main price drop occurred after a year bringing it into line with the PS4 price (it had launched £90 more expensive), then a proper price cut after two years. The Switch launched four years ago and still has not had a price drop. Many consoles are sold at launch below cost, best case scenario is usually break even, as processes improve they can then start to make a little bit of profit on the hardware whilst reducing the price.

The semiconductor shortage is causing huge issues, not only for computer products themselves (eg. laptops, CPUs, graphics cards, consoles, phones and tablets etc.) but also in other products. Major car manufacturers have had to slow down or stop production due to shortages of the chips used in cars, vans etc. it is causing shortages and pushing up prices and probably will not improve hugely for a year or more as new fabs can not be brought online quickly.

Best case is you will get one at RRP and they probably will not be any cheaper for eighteen months to two years, at which point there might be a £50-100 discount, so if you want one you might as well buy one now (if you can find one).

Yeah I was just hoping on paying the RRP for them but at this rate I think I'll have to buy at around £600 just don't want to really give scalpers my money

Great analysis on the price cuts though Thanks!

I would say just wait until you can get one through a legitimate retailer. There are no must buy games for the Series X yet as they are all cross-generation, there are a couple for the PS5, but even then I would not say they justify paying over the odds. Until some proper next-gen games, or at least games which were built from the ground up using the benefits of the new generation systems then it is worth waiting.

Why "disappointed"? How do you expect them to resolve the global semiconductor shortage?
