Can work as you to attend a MAP meeting whilst you have a sick note?

    Short answer - yes.

    A "sick note" (now actually called a fit note) is only advisory. In fact in the old days when they were called "sick notes" they said on them something like "for social security purposes only" and that "you are advised to refrain from work".

    These days many employers get paranoid about possible liability issues if they allow someone to work when they have a note advising them not to. However it is not absolute by any means.

    Generally a "sick note" did not mean you were too unwell to attend a meeting with HR or your boss. If somebody wanted to avoid such a meeting they were usually advised to get the doctor to be very specific that they were too unwell to do so. If the doctor wanted to be pedantic they could charge for such a note as it was outside their NHS duties.

    When of sick it is an appropriate position for your employer to check. Of course if you have an infectious disease your employer may view that differently. Read your "Fit" note for guidance.
