Hi
What is the process of getting a tax refund for a self-assessment tax return if it's worked out that I've paid too much tax after filing 20-21 tax return..? Is there a limit on the refund amount and would requesting the refund a any red flags with HMRC? Thanks.

Once you submit your return you will get money back if you've overpaid.
Why would there be a red flag if HMRC owe you money and you ask for it back?0 -
You can apply for a refund - Claim a tax refund - GOV.UK (www.gov.uk)... but don't expect a quick reply. I understand that the current 'wait' is in the region of 5 - 6 months. I'll be 'reminding' them in October if my (acknowledged) refund isn't back in my bank account....#2 Saving for Christmas 2024 - £1 a day challenge. £325 of £3661

You can claim any refund in the appropriate section on the self assessment tax return.
There is no maximum limit , although security checks may be required befrore issuing the repayment.

Very large refunds look like they can be subject to delay, although not many can be due a refund of over either £150k or £90,000,000!!
